Gateway GT5040 Graphics Card

This model Gateway desktop computer has a built-in video card.
Connect the monitor to the Gateway motherboard video port and the boot up and go into the BIOS and select disable the built-in video.
Shut down then connect the monitor to the 8800GTX video card and boot up the Gateway computer. The video should then appear in the monitor.

Windows xp sleep suspend hibernate

make sure the cables have not come loose, then turn the monitor off then back on, if that doesn't work is where the fun starts. boot up to safe mode with networking. If that loads up and the screen is still black then either your monitor or video card need replaced. Hook up a different monitor if that works it is naturally your monitor, if not then it is your video card. Unless you are into high end graphics design, gaming, or hooking up to a flat screen tv, they are not too too expensive and can be swapped out in a matter of minutes

Black screen just after boot window from USB

Sounds like either the monitor or video card inside the computer is bad. Try connecting another monitor to the computer. Borrow a monitor from a friend, neighbor, relative or co-worker and plug it into the computer. If the borrowed monitor displays ok, then your original monitor is bad. If the borrowed monitor does the same thing and not show a display then your video card inside the computer is bad.

My problem is as above i turn the laptop on you can hear it running but e screen is blackth

Try connecting an external monitor to it if that works then it's the LCD screen but if it doesn't work it's the video chip on the motherboard.

Randomly lost display on my pc.. and its not a faulty card.

Try to set your PCI-E card as a first one in BIOS. There also should be an option to turn off onboard video.

Unexpectedly lost graphics, but theres a story to the issue.

You mentioned that you disabled the on-board graphics card using the device mamager.
You should disable the on-board video card in the BIOS.
Go to the BIOS config and disable the Video.

Computer monitor becomes distorted after boot up.

Hi,

Download and install the correct driver for the monito as well as the deiver for your video card, if the video is onboard, you may need the motherboard and AGP driver as well.
You will probably need to boot in Safemode to do this.
Good Luck.
