SOURCE: Lens dropped and now it is tilted inside and won't focus
I had a camera with the very same problem and decided to take it apart. After all what was there to loose.
It sounds like you have more to do than I did. after undoing many screws I was able to take out the zoom lens housing. I was able to disconnect the motor from the main body. I also removed the CCD board.
I then removed the rear cover which housed most of the mechanics for the focusing and shutter operation. This was quite tricky as it is a very tight fit, and had to be wiggled out very carefully.
When I looked inside the main body I could see several metal pins which were wedged between the outer shell and the lens holder... a bit of force was required to seperate these. Unfortunatley the holders for the metal pins were broken, and there seemed to be nothing I could do. But I decided to try and super glue them in place. A bit of trial and error and i managed to get them all back into place. This bit is really tricky as there are several tracks for these little rods to fit into and not getting them right will make the lens not function.
Your model may be different but I suspect you will find that the metal rods which move the lens back and forth are loose and that the holders for same are broken. If you have a lot of time and patience you can get it working as I did mine.
Feel free to contact me if you need more info. (I knew I should have take some photos whilst I was doing it.

Thomas
