Unplug unit.
Open casing.
Look for loose wiring connector, otherwise:
Temporarily swap left and right speakers.
Plug in and play a continuous recorded tone of about 50Hz-440Hz.
Play with maximum volume to get a decent voltage reading.
If LEFT CH now works then L speaker is faulty.
If RIGHT CH now works then L amplifier is faulty.
Electrical test (needs a meter with Volts and Resistance).
With speaker still connected test audio (AC V) signal on working right speaker terminals.
Now check left Channel at amplifier board if possible, and at speaker terminals.
If no V unplug speaker wires if possible at board then test across board L+ and L- output pins.
Still nothing means amp is faulty.
Test continuity of speaker wires end-to-end. Each wire should be 0 ohms or close to zero. The continuity buzzer function can also be used for this.
With amplifier off and unplugged, remove speaker-connector from board or cut live speaker wire or unplug lug at speaker, whichever is easier. With one wire apart from the amplifier, test the loudspeaker ohms.
Should be in the range of about 4-8 ohms.
Most speakers have the rating screen-printed on the voice-coil magnet housing.
If ohms reading is way too low, say 0-1 ohm it has a short and is damaged.
If ohms reading is way too high, say several Meg-ohms, it has a coil break and is damaged.
Carefully join/tape any cut wires if applicable, renew speaker if faulty with same size and rating, re-test then re-assemble.

Try radio shack, or stereo sales/installation place for ready to go plug adapter. For a few bucks, it saves headaches, and butchering the wiring in case you want to re-install old one later when trading in or selling the car.

SOURCE: Radio wiring problem 2001 Audi A3

Hi, had total issues with this too! Your back speakers arent going because they are amped by the factory amp in the boot. You have to provide power to the amp so that it will turn the rear speakers on. This was a white and black striped wire in my car (Audi A3 1997) The rear speakers are blue /green and brown/red (left rear) , and the LH rear is brown/red and (forgotten colour) but the wire on the bottom left under those two brown/red wires on the 20pin harness. If you wire it all up like this then your rears should be going :)

Testimonial: "So sorry for the very long delay in replying to your advice. It was the sub/amp in the boot as you correctly guessed. Another £200! Many thanks Pal"

SOURCE: radio/cd player stopped working after battery replaced

Whenever you completely disconnect a battery from a car (newer car) all the computers shut down, and everything becomes discombobulated...after you drive it a little bit, they kick back in eventually...just takes a little time. (and patience)

1988 bmw 325si manufacture radio is missing but wiring cluster is intact apparently. Do i have to have a stock radio replacement or can i install a cd player deck without causing problems???

Generally you any after market radio can be installed into any car. You might have to cut the original wiring connector but basically all you need to hook up a basic radio/cd player is a positive and a ground wire. That's what powers the radio/cd player. Next all you need to do is hook up the speaker wires the unit. One other option is to check out ebay for a used radio/cd player. You will do better getting a radio that does not have an anti-theft feature. If it has an anti-theft feature you will have to enter a code to make it work.

Just replaced the trans, now the radio, clock & cd player doesnt

Assuming this is subsequent from the transmission work ,you might double check all wiring including ground lugs which are attatched to top bell housing bolts and the orange fusible link attatched to the starter B+ connection. Check all fuses including the maxi fuses located in the underhood junction box and vehicle interior. Inspect all bell housing mounting surfaces to block and insure no wires have become pinched or shorted during assembly. good luck

2004 Chevy Trailblazer radio and CD player works, but no sound

if you have installed a new cd player in there then the propblem could be that your speaker wires and either touching each other or grounding them selfs out.. pull of the cd player and check to make sure all the speaker wires are covered properly and no bare wires are exposed.. if you still have a factory cd player in it then you will probably need to take it to a dealership to have it checked out..
