Question about Sony Audio Players & Recorders
SOURCE: Left Deck Door Stuck Shut on Cassette Deck
The cassette mechanism has a large gear that rotates to different
positions for the different modes. On time around is a play -
stop cycle. It is stuck in one position and won't come around to
the stop spot. Need to take the cover off and help it to turn to
get the cassette out. Then figure out if something is wrong
preventing it from turning or if the wheel driving it is the
problem. They are all a little different so this is where your
mechanical apptitude comes in.
By the way, you'll figure out right away they don't intend these things to be fixed.
Hope Ya Fix It.

SOURCE: Marantz Cassette Deck Model Sd 35 Tape door will not open
It sounds like the drive belts on the deck have broken (not allowing playing, FF or REW) and/or the tape got "eaten" meaning the tape itself has wound itself around the rollers and cannot free itself. I strongly doubt this is an electrical issue. Definately sounds mechanical.
As far as the door not opening, there's usually a hook that holds the door closed. If the unit is mostly disassembled, look near one of the sides of the door for a metal hook. It's normally spring loaded and can be moved manually. That should free the door. If your tape was eaten, it might take some gentle persuasion to unwrap it from the rollers.
Good luck.

i had the same problem of not opening the cassette doors and not running with my sony tc wr535. After I repaced the belts myself with new ones it did run fine! :-) An original sony(!) rubber belt set for the two decks costed me 23 euroos incl pp.

SOURCE: Sony TC WR565 dual tape deck. Both doors will not
you can not fix it without tearing it apart. if you do take it apart, try to get the front panel off. Hit the eject button and look for a lever that is stuck.

It sounds like the belt is slipping or broken which monitors the speed of the tape movement. When you play or rewind the tape, it thinks the tape has reached the end of play and shuts off. You can try a different tape to make sure the tape does not have too much tension on it. If the second tape has the same result you will need to remove the top cover of the deck to inspect the tape drive mechanism. Make sure the belts and pulleys are clean and replace any belts which have glazing or cracks. If the belt is broken you will need to replace it with a compatible belt of the same length and width.
