You didn't mention the model so I don't know how old the set is, but its possible the CCFL tubes are getting bad and not putting out the light they used to

You have a defect in the convergence circuit. Both chips will need replaced and possibly a resistor or two. Chip part numbers are STK392-110. Typical repair runs around $350
