The Polaroid 0722 portable dvd player spins the disk but then says "bad disk" error. This is the same for all good disks that work in other players. If it is a bad ribbon cable and lens then where do I buy these parts and how do I fix it? Is it worth the effort?

If you are using original discs and have the problem. Try with a cleaning disc and is still the same, check for calibrating the optic lens. About how much is the replace or the calibrating you have to ask on the repair shop or manuf. website. Sometimes, is better buy a new one because the technology moves so fast it makes the same technology disposable.

Try another disk, if not this unit may be broken and repair may not be economically to your advantage. These drives where out - they are a mechanical spinning part.
some dvd players are designes such that it will play good and original discs only .. so that the clarity of the picture will be good. use a original cd and play..
You'd need to open the unit, and the problem is either that the laser and the tray are misaligned, which can be tricky to fix even, or worse, you need a new laser. Either way, the Polaroid dvd player may not be worth getting repaired if it is no longer under warranty.
The problem is you need to replace the laser assembly if the disc is spinning and not being read, or if the disc isnt spinning, you need to replace the mpeg printed circuit board attached to the laser assembly. Good Luck.
I have finally fixed ya you BAD DISC error message on the Polaroid PDM-0743 ok, listen carefully, first try cleaning the eye lens in the dvd player with a Que Tip with "distilled water" or with "rubbing alcohol" and then let dry, put movie in, turn power on, and it MIGHT WORK? but my guess it will still say BAD DISC, so if that happends it's take apart time you will only need one tool

Take out the battery and Flip the unit over where the DVD players LCD SREEN is sitting on your lap you should find alot of black screws just un install the screws on the back

but wait take this sticker off too.

and after that

If you find that the DVD is not spinning it might means that the the "spinner" is not functioning, the sound you hear is the laser moving up and down trying to read your DVD but since is not spinning it can not read it. You will need to replace the small motor that operates the spinner, after extensive use they just give up. I hope this is helpful enough.
