Sounds like the door switch is going bad. You'll need to search by the model number of your dryer.

SOURCE: DRYER

The thermal cut-out is located on the side of the heater housing assm. To gain access you need to use a putty knife to depress the two spring clips between the top and the front panel and raise the top. The heater is on the back wall. The part number for the t-stat and thermal cut-out kit is LA-1053 and is about $20.00. Don't forget to clean your vent, and check your blower assm. Either one could have caused the problem.

SOURCE: How do I remove the lint housing of Maytag Neptune dryer

Hi Kate,

Gaining access to the lint housing sounds more difficult than it is. As a matter of fact, I could get to it and have it back together in the time it takes me to type out the instructions!

Tools needed;
1.) Phillips screwdriver
2.) 5/16" nut driver or socket

UNPLUG THE DRYER FIRST!!! Or risk a funky new hair-do...
ba8ea7f.jpg

Open the door and remove the four screws at the hinges then remove the door. Opposite the hinges, you'll see 4 more screws, remove these too. Now grasp the front panel on both sides near the top and pull it toward you. Lean it out to about a 45 degree angle and lift it off the clips that are holding it (at the bottom).
Now you'll see the lint trap housing. Look around the housing, you'll probably see a yellow wire near the 5 o'clock position, remove it. Now, on either side, you'll see four 5/16" screws... Don't remove the top ones, just remove the three below the top ones. You can now pull the entire panel off of the frame for cleaning.
Rebuild in the reverse order (and don't forget to re-connect that yellow wire!)

There ya go! Please don't forget to rate this as "FixYa", OK

SOURCE: MAYTAG PERFORMA ELECTRIC DRYER WONT START

Same thing as other owners above...Dryer is five years old and is in need of a good cleaning of lint build-up. Model no. PYET444AZW.
I put a large load of clothes, which probably should have been spun again, into the dryer. When I returned the clothes were still basically wet, and the light in the dryer would not come on, and nor would the dryer start.
Tested the circuit breaker. OK. Tested the outlet with a tester pen. OK.
So in searching the internet for a solution, I found and read this string. Found the fuse, called my local appliance parts store and bought a thermal fuse kit for CDN$48 (incl sales tax). Kit came with three fuses.
Just opening the top of the dryer was a chore for a complete novice. However, the entire top is hinged at the back -- so at the front of the machine, just gently poked a slot screwdriver in the gap ringing the sides near the top, twist screwdriver and lift. Big fuse is easily accessible at the top near the back of the drum. It's a round thing about the size of a quarter screwed into a metal frame with two crimped-on wires coming out the top. One screw to removed the frame. Then detached the crimped-on wires, and removed the fuse from the frame with two more screws. You will need a smaller size ratchet or nut-driver.
While you have it apart you might as well change the second nickel-size fuse, too, although it is more of a pain.
You have to remove the coiled elements, which are basically just big springs. They come out with one screw on the right and a little finesse. The second fuse sits on the right-hand side of the metal box surrounding the coiled element. The screw for the coil also held the frame for the fuse in place, but the frame will still be secured to the box with a couple of small tongues. So you will still need to kind of lift and pull up on the frame housing the fuse. It requires some patience and finesse. Remove the crimped-on wires, and change the fuse.
Of the two smaller replacement fuses that came with the kit, there was one marked for a gas dryer and another for electric. (The big fuse was good for both.)
Then start putting it all back together. Took me two hours in all. But now that I have done it once, it would hopefully take me only 30 mins. now.
Finally, my replacement instructions suggested cleaning out your machine and removing the lint and other burdens which probably overloaded the fuse in the first place. So I bought one of those specialized lint brushes to clean out the trap and the exhaust hose and vent.

THE DRYER WONT START,FILTER AND VENTS ARE CLEAR. HOW DO YOU FIX THIS PROBLEM?

Several reasons can cause a no start dryer condition. I'll start with the easy ones first. If a gas dryer, it runs off 120 volts. Check the house fuse or breaker or plug a light into the dryer outlet to make sure you have power. If outlet is OK then we have several dryer problems possible. If the dryer is electric, it run off 220 volts. You need a voltage tester to check the 220 house plug. Could still be a problem with the house 220 breaker. On the dryer itself, the first thing to check is the door switch. If the door switch is bad the dryer will think the door is open even when it is actually closed. Next, some dryers have a switch on the internal belt system. If the belt breaks, the dryer will not run.(only on some newer models). Couls also be a bad timer assembly. Some of these may need a tech to actually test since it requires taking the dryer apart to get to these item.

My Maytag Dryer Model MCE800AYQ the bottom dryer says "close Door" even when it is closed and will not operate?

Look at part #4 (door switch) on the link: http://www.partselect.com/ModelFrames.aspx?ModelID=121445&ModelNum=MCE8000AYQ&mfgModelNum=&ManufactureID=1&Selected=55725&Position=5&mfg=Maytag&Type=Dryer&Mark=5 I think it has been damaged. The part is resonablly priced. Investigate further and see if you are confident enough to DIY.

Maytag Bravo 400 series won't start. I click the start button and it beeps but nothing happens.

Hi there,

Well first of all you can check door switch - If the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryer won't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch is inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. The door switch is a simple on / off switch to indicate whether the dryer's door is open or closed. The dryer will not operate when the door is open. If your dryer runs with the door open, the switch may shorted closed or there may be a dangerous electrical short in your dryer. If your dryer will not start when you press the start button and you hear no sounds, the door switch may be the problem.

Good Luck!!

DRYER DOES NOT DO ANYTHING

Check the following to address this issue.

1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse. Check the wall socket for power with a voltmeter or by plugging something else in. Sometimes the power cord disconnects or burns at the dryer, if this is the case, the wiring and the terminal block must be repaired or replaced.

2. Door switch / Door switch actuator lever
The dryer would not start with a broken door switch. Replace the door switch if found defective.

Most dryers have a door switch actuator lever - when you close a dryer door, it presses against the lever, which actuates the door switch. If the lever is broken, the switch would not activate and the dryer would not start. Replace the lever, if broken.

Note: Door switch actuator lever usually comes with the door switch assembly and it is recommended to get the whole assembly since there is almost no price difference between the door switch assembly and just the lever. Check your model for more details.

The dryer has power but the start cycle knob only buzzes

IF THIS MODEL USES THE TIMER TO START THE MACHINE BY PULLING OUT ON THE KNOB, I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE QUITE A FEW TIMERS FOR THIS PROBLEM. SOMETIMES BY MOVING THE KNOB UP AND DOWN AND SIDE TO SIDE WHILE PULLING WILL START THE MACHINE. IF SO, REPLACE TIMER.

MY MAYTAG DRYER DOES NOT WORK WHEN I TRY TO START IT. THE LIGHT TURNS ON WHEN I OPEN THE DOOR HOWEVER. THE DRYER IS 4 YEARS OLD.

try this first:
  • turn off the dryer circuit breaker in the house then turn it back on. sometimes the dual breaker will trip on only one side leaving you with a non functioning machine that seems to have power.
  • also check the door switch and make sure it is clicking when you slowly close the door.
if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.
