SOURCE: How do I remove the washable filter to clean it on my Dyson bagless vacuum?

As you are looking down at the base of the machine (viewing from the front) you will notice a yellow button on the right side just inside of the the wheel area. push up the button to release the casing that holds the hepa filter and the spongy filter. You can see a diagram on your machine which shows this process. After you take the casing from the machine, the round housing which houses the 2 filters will come out of this casing as you pull it off. You can grab the spongy filter and pull it our of the casing. Rinse both filters as shown in diagrams on the side of the casing. Do not use soapy water, just warm water and squeeze out the spongy filter after each new soaking. Let the filters dry for 12 hours and then replace in your unit and enjoy the refurbished air movement. It does suggest that you clean these filters every 6 months.

SOURCE: Cleaning the filter on the Dyson DC17

The fliter is under the canister. Take it off as if going to empty the dirt out. There is a cap that lifts up to clean the filter. I washed mine and let it dry (it took almost 3 days) before replacing it.

SOURCE: Does my Dyson Animal vacuum have a hepa filter?

The HEPA filter is not a cleanable item. The pre-motor filter is the washable one.

How do I dismantle my Dyson DC58 to clean all filter etc

Hi David, it's Jack at Dyson.

We'd advise against dismantling DC58 any further than is shown in the User guide. This could cause damage to your machine not covered under guarantee - meaning any replacement parts needed could be chargeable. However, you can wash the lifetime pre-filter following the steps shown in the video below:

We recommend washing the filter at least once a month, using cold water without detergent. Make sure the filter is totally dry before replacing it, which could take at least 24 hours.

To clean any fluff or debris from the mesh shroud, press the red bin base release catch once to open the bin base. Then with the base still open, press the same red catch firmly a second time:

dismantle-dyson-dc58-clean-all-filter-m43difmpidfjgfho0k5c5fgh-2-0.jpg

You can use a dry cloth or a soft brush to remove any debris from the mesh shroud.

It's normal for harmless static to cause fine dust particles to cling to parts of the bin, cyclone pack and behind the mesh shroud. This dust will not affect performance as the airflow doesn't need to pass through this. You should find tapping the cyclone pack gently when emptying the machine will help dislodge any clinging particles.

I hope this helps, but for further advice you can call our experts directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

How do you clean the HEPA filter on the Dyson DC14 Animal Vacuum

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC14 has two filters, a pre-motor filter and a post-motor filter. Both are engineered to last the lifetime of the vacuum in normal use, but only the pre-motor filter requires maintenance.

We recommend washing the pre-motor filter at least once every 3-6 months using cold water without detergent, as shown in the video below. Always ensure it's completely dry before replacing it - this could take at least 12 hours.

The HEPA post-motor filter does not require any maintenance. We advise against attempting to wash or clean it in any way as this could cause damage. It's normal for the filter to discolour over time, as it's engineered to capture the carbon dust from the motor brushes. This will not affect performance.

I hope this helps, but if you'd like any further information you're welcome to contact our experts directly at 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Flashin red light with 2 flashing green lights. Filters are clean and dry. Unit just not working

  • According to the service manual if all three lights are blinking this mean one of two things.
  1. The filter is missing or improperly fitted --- Try removing the filter and replacing it and double check everything real well.
  2. The other thing it states is charging fault --- remove the appliance and refit it again.
  • If you do both of these and them lights continue to blink there is more than likely a charging fault be it the battery has gone bad or the charger has gone bad. I have dealt with Dyson on several occasions and they do have some decent customer service. Dyson offers a full 5 year warranty on their products. http://www.dyson.com/homepage.asp if you contact them and tell them your problem they will helps you find either a place close bu to take it to or a place to ship it to. I believe that Dyson pays for shipping as well.

  • Let me know if you have something else to add to the equation. I always come back if a customer needs additional help.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

I have a dc14 that cuts out after five mins even if just stood still i have no blockages it will switch back on after 30 mins any ideas

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14. Like most Dyson cleaners, your DC14 is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the cleaner if it starts to overheat. This is often due to a blockage, or because the filter needs a wash. Although I note you've already checked for blockages, I'd recommend following the steps shown in our online guide linked below, just to make sure you haven't missed anything:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=626&product=DC14-ANIMAL

The correct way to wash the filter is shown in the guide linked below. The filter should be washed in cold water without any detergent, at least once every 3-6 months. Always ensure it's totally dry before replacing it - this may take up to 12 hours.

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=1942&product=DC14-ANIMAL

By clearing any obstructions and washing the filter, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've followed these steps and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you and recommend the best course of action.

Kind regards,

Jack

Each time I vacuum, animal hair and dirt collect on the Hepa filter of my Dyson Animal. It is about 5 years old. I have already replaced the Hepa filter about a month ago.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14. If dirt and pet hair are collecting on your HEPA filter, the pre-motor filter may be incorrectly fitted, or missing from your cleaner. To check the filter is correctly fitted, please see our online support video for this cleaner:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1461&product=DC14-ALLFLOORS_US

If the cleaner has been used with the pre-motor filter missing, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly, as the cleaner may have been damaged. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

OUR DYSON DC 17 ANIMAL HAS A SMELL OF ABOUT 50 DOGS THAT HAVEN'T HAD BATHS FOR A YEAR.. WE HAVE TWO DOGS IN THE HOUSE AND THEY ARE KEPT CLEAN. WE'VE WASHED THE CANISTER, THE FILTER,BRUSHED OUT THE HOSES.....

Try buying "Citronella" from an essential oils dealer (maybe eBay?) Apply 6-12 drops on the paper filter element...you'll LOVE the smell.
