SOURCE: REAR BRAKES

i think your aware of how to change the brakes if im right and your problem is the rusted drum doesnt want to come off the only way to get the old drum off is to remove adjuster plug from behind drum dustshield and adjust the shoes so that there not even close to the braking area of the drum then try and wiggle the drum off of the assembly if it is not coming off then you need to use the old nylon hammer on the drum and i mean you must hit the drum from side to side trying by hand to wiggle the drum off its a tight fit and you need to strike the drum on the face not on the fins not wanting to damage with persistance and care and patience you will eventually be able to remove the drum to service brakes take care and good luck with it

SOURCE: rear brakes uneven breaking as per mot tester

The Chardes have a diagonal split system, so one of the front discs is plumbed to the diagonally located rear drum.

You may need to check the front brakes too and that they have been bleed properly.

Other common cause of uneven braking are:

seized wheel cylinder;
brake hose obstruction or weakend wall;
weak pull off spring on shoe;
uneven drum roundness;
compensator/proportioning valve dicky.

SOURCE: how to change rear brake shoes on a 2004 chevy venture

The rear brake shoes use a U clip to hold the shoes together. A simple solution to this change job is to change one side at a time.
Slowly unclip the U clip from the top of the shoe and remove the left shoe and spring. Replace the left shoe and reconnect the U clip, then do the same for the other shoe. Clean, adjust,and grease the self adjuster and you're done. Do the same for the other side of the van. If you take both sides of the clip off you're in for some heavy duty stretching with pliers unless you have the right tool.

My 1998 buick centry locks up the brakes when i reverse. only in reverse, and only when i touch the brakes. it will reverse fine till i hit the brakes then all wheels lock. this does not happen in dri

Are you sure it is all 4 wheels locking up? I have a 1998 Century and had the same problem, it is due to moisture getting on the rear brake shoes, this makes them "stick" to the drum cold and lock the wheels, the newer brake shoe friction material has been improved to avoid this so called "stickson" problem in moist cold weather.

Sueaky front wheel

It could be a number of things. First check your brakes for any rocks or excessive dirt. Second, check to make sure you are not in need of new brake pads. Brake pads are equipped with a tab that starts making noise when its time to replace your brakes. Third, have the bearing checked. Once the bearing get excessively worn they will start making a squeaky sound. Also have the shocks checked. the bushing worn out in shocks can also cause the noise. The best bet is to have your local mechanic inspect your front end for any wear. Once he does this, he can compile a list of parts that need replaced. Then you can replace or fix it yourself.
