Help I bought a polaroid pmp 120-4 and it doesn't register that the switch is in the on position

try this. the iriver doesn't boot at times ( wrong charger or using the right charger abroad), unlatch the battery and hold down the power button for about 20 seconds. also reset the instrument. hopefully that might work for you.

I believe you can just drag and drop the music files right over from windows to the PMP as a drive, but the videos need to be reformatted to the screen size, bitrate and audio sampling rate. The PMP is based on Linux so the mediaplayer in windows doesnt automatically reformat the videos as the PMC does.

Boot failure or just nothing?

Boot failure would be the hard disk.
Just nothing would indicate that the system board is dead.

You don't mention using the mains power adaptor.
