Hi Jim.
Check your modem speed

  1. Open up a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc.).
  2. Type http://192.168.0.1* in the address bar, and hit Enter.
  3. Select Modem Status and locate the rate (downstream/download or upstream/upload). If you don't see Modem Status, troubleshoot as if your speed test is less than 100%.
  4. Compare your results to the Internet speed which you subscribe. If the modem speed test shows your speed is slower than the speed to which you subscribe, you can explore these articles for further troubleshooting:
  5. Note: Your speed can be affected by changes in network traffic and usage, which will usually vary across days and the time of day. To get the most accurate reading, run the speed test more than once, including different times of the day and different days of the week.

SOURCE: The wireless works but speed varies quite dramaticly

You don't talk about the laptop you're using or the type of wireless card it has... It can be several issues including the wireless capabilities of your laptop, the need for a firmware upgrade on your router and tweaking the wireless settings. I would go to the Linksys forums http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/linksys/board?board.id=Wireless_Routers and post your issue with as much detail about your laptop and current router settings as possible. The users on this forum can definitely help you.

SOURCE: very slow in my dell laptop

it's probably a mixture of the wireless card router and browser. If you like mac then why not see if their safari browser is better than internet explorer. Mac is going to work better than windows because it's components are well matched

SOURCE: slow internet at 120 Kbps but fast connection at 54 Mbps Why

54 Mbps is the speed between your computer and your wireless router. The .8 Mbps is the speed of your connection between the router and the internet. You should call your ISP and ask what your speeds should be; there could be something wrong on their end or your modem might be malfunctioning. It's also possible that your WiFi connection itself has a weak signal. That can be corrected by moving the router and the computer closer together, or getting a signal relay and putting it between them.

I have a Alienware desktop and a netgear D6300 modem router. My internet connection is incredibly slow. I did speedyest on it and it's showing 0.24 Mbps download speed and 0.24. Mbps upload speed. What do...

slow speed connection can be caused by alot of factors:
* u r too far from the telephone exchange. Nothing can be done in this case
* there might be a fault on the physical line. U need to speak to ur ISP to send someone to fix it.
* ur phone/ fax machine might not be filtered or has a faulty filter.
* ur modem might be faulty.
My suggestion is first, try isolate ur modem. disconnect all other equipment and check ur speed. if still the same speak to ur ISP to try do some testing and then they might be able to send a tech if needed .

Slow presario laptop

Your Internet connection speed is very low better you can try the following steps:
1)Reset the modem
2)Use the latest web browser like Chrome,Opera,Mozilla Firefox etc..
3)Use the antivirus protection software and internet virus protection software.
4)Clear the cookies everyday on your browser.
5)Then check your internet uploading and downloading speed in MBps and Mbps from Scanmyspeed.com . Still your Internet Speed is low then contact the Internet Service Provider(ISP) and upgrade to latest plan.

I just got xfinity cable internet that is connected through a linksys wireless g router and a arris cable modem. when i do a speed test at 2wire.com, my speed is only 2.7 Mbps. I believe it should be 16....

To correctly check James, I would connect a computer directly to the modem, and test at speedtest.net. If that DL speed is fine, then I would connect the router, and plug a computer directly into the router and test again. If that number is fine, then you can narrow your issue down to WiFi speed only. All of the ports on the back of that router should be at least 100 Mbps ports. So that should not be the bottleneck. If your speed directly attached to the modem is slower than you expected, I would contact your carrier.

I have installed the moto surfboard 6580. The lan is speed testing on average 52-55mbps on comcast extreme 50, however, my wireless network will only give me 25mbps. I've tried every configuration that I...

sbg6580 or what? you failed to use real model.

first off wired Ethernet is always faster.WAN (and the web actual)
say wifi not wireless there are many wireless and wifi is but 1.
there are 2 speeds, raw and real (throughput) latter is real.
and is bits per second not BYTES.
The 802.11a and 802.11g networks usually run no faster than 20 Mbps..
the answer is simple
one or both wifi devices is slow
either or both.
the speed will based on the slowest one, called band width bottle-necking.. just like driving a car really , traffic and narrow roads are slower. or are gravel roads, see?
so buy new wifi upgrades wifi 5 or 6, , 802.11AC or AX
yours is old and slow
and more money always buys faster cars or better roads or wifi.
speed costs and is not free.
read here first
but gee upgrades are the answer. but no hardware told yet

now just the modem/router your SB
Wi-Fi N300 2.4Ghz + N300 5GHz Dual Band Router. The IEEE 802.11 Standard on Wireless LANs (Revision B, Revision G, and Revision N
so if he PC is not N or is not dual bad it can not do N speeds
or is B or G speed now)
100 Mbps is max speed on "N" 11N
and must be close to the router and both bands enabled on both ends and no huge traffic on those bands in your home or IOT there or in the hood (crowded apartments omg bad)
your router is not junk, but most old PCs are unless upgraded.
and lots of IOT things are 1 band and slow.
no brink or concrete walls from PC to router.
wifi is radio and does not link dense obstruction LINE OF SIGHT.
