For some reason my printer has stopped printing. It gives me an error message saying that the paper tray is empty. I've checked for jams and even tried different paper weights to no avail. I hear it trying to pull in a piece of paper and then it gives the error message. I looked with a flashlight and see that there is a little "foot" thing that must drag the paper forward to the rollers but it does not move. Is it supposed to? Could that be the issue?

This error message is displayed by the printer when paper is jammed in one or more locations. In such a case, users are recommended to remove the jammed paper from the specified location. The entire paper path must be checked for any pieces of paper. To stop the message, open and close the top most cover of the printer. Lastly, verify the flags and the sensors. If the problem persists, the cause of the error message could be a broken sensor or sensor lever. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-printing-questions/Paper-Jam-Error/m-p/305772#M20513
Try the feed tires in the tray first. More than likely the paper is not being picked up and causing jam message. The separation roller also has a hub on it to prevent a second sheet from feeding. Sometimes these start to lock up ,a little oil on the hub sometimes relieves some of the tension.
Brand New T652n lexmark printer get a paper jam every time! just opened and haven't been able to print one paper. Doesn't matter if you print from tray one or tray two. It gets stuck right after the rollers pick it up and try to send it to the toner. Any suggestions? I've tried to reseat the toner, plain paper, sized the paper correctly, I've tried just about everything I can think of! I can feed paper manually through the top tray, and it will print. But, just using the manual tray defeats the purpose of the other two trays. Anyone else having this issue?
Paper jams can be tricky to solve. The paper is usually stuck inside the printer mechanism so even if there is no visible paper jam, you will still get the paper jam error. Try this:
1. Turn off your printer
2. Open all trays and remove any paper stuck there
3. Locate the button to open the printer, open it and remove any paper stuck there also.
4. Repeate the above step for all buttons that you can find to access the inside of the printer
5. Close all doors and put back all trays
6. Turn on your printer

It appear from here that the exit sensor may be dirty and you can use canned air and blow it out.
You may also be missing the paper out sensor that is located at the bottom of the printer oposite of the paper tray when you pull it out. When the flag arm has fallin out, it will give a false paper jam error when the last sheet has printed from the tray, not knowing or detecting that the tray is now empty.
