Usually DVD players have audio and picture "out" connections to go to your TV. Verify that your cables are connected. If it has worked in the past and suddenly started, disconnect then reconnect the cables at both the DVD player and TV end. Cables do not usually go bad but unfortunately DVD players are considered disposable and are not usually repaired any more. If you have multiple video/audio connections on the back of your TV (like Video 1 & Video 2) switch the cables from one to the other. Be sure to keep your cable sets together and don't do something like video output to video 1 and audio output to audio 2. If that works for you then you may have connectors on the back of your TV going out. Hope this helps you.

Hi. How can I connect a DVD player yo a thorn tv. I've got the red yellow and white cable but the picture is black and white and has pixels.

Red and White are usually sound inputs
Yellow should go to the yellow INPUT on the TV.
If these are connected properly and A/V is the selected input,
unplugging the red or white should only take away sound from the Left or Right.
The yellow wire carries all picture information to the Video input.
Try unplugging and reconnecting the yellow cable. If it does not improve the picture, try replacing it. (You can try any cable, the TV can't tell what color you are using.) ;-).

My samsung dvd-sh855m has no picture, only sound. there is no picture at all so I cannot even set the machine up. When I put a dvd in I can hear it but the screen stays black

Press the 'pscan' button on the front of the recorder 3 times and the picture will come back. This is a little sod as you only need to catch the pscan button once - if your TV doesn't support a progressive scan your picture has gone....

We have reconnected our DVD to our new flatscreen and can see the picture, hear the sound but the picture is only black and white

This sounds like either the colour settings on the DVD are wrong for your new TV, or the TV has got the wrong setting for the socket that the DVD is connected to.
Go to the menu of the DVD first and look for picture settings etc. Or colour, keep your eyes peeled for the words PAL or NTSC.
