Question about Whirlpool Cooktops

Open Question

Have just moved into house with Whirlpool gas cooktop. No product no or info. After lighting gas, the flame goes out when the knob is released, no matter how long I have held it down.

SOURCE: When lighting one of the burners, the ingnition knob has to be held down over ten seconds for the flame to stay lit when the knob is released..

Lift the top of the Stove up.
Look for a Small line that goes to the Affected Burner.
At the end of that Line you will see a small Flathead Screw.
Turning That screw Clockwise Adjusts your Pilot Light for that Burner.
Be careful not to Adjust to High, it would just be a Waist of gas.

hope that helped.

SOURCE: miele gas cooktop flame shuts off after lighting.

I had similar problem.Solved by Miele tech by placing rice grain sized wad of paper towel inside knob so it sits slightly higher on the valve shaft.

SOURCE: The flame is too high on my GE Profile gas cooktop

I had the same issue on my jgp975 and sadly I had to purchase a different unit. I use simmer frequently and I made the assumption that low was simmer. Wrong. I believe a true simmer is 450 btu and my unit did not go that low. I had to check the fine print/specs page and on some units the manufacturer had to be called. I did replace with another ge profile that did have the low setting.

SOURCE: the knob on my gas cooktop does not work press down do a quarter turn and I have ignition, the knob is meant to turn more so the burner stays lit and to control flame but the knob will not turn

let off the knob pressure a bit to see if you can then turn the knob
call a gas fitter as gas is not in the DIY domain

LP gas stove top . burners want turn down to low. Only medium and high flame work on burners.

Has this just recently happened? Check the knobs aren't cracked sometimes the brass spindle inside the knob is not gripping to turn it right down, also check your l p gas pressure it should be 2.75 kpa.
if the flames are big and yellow it's getting too much gas, not enough air.

Gas burner will not stay lit. works fine when pressing knob for igniter function but goes out when knob is released

You have what we call a flame safe device fitted to the burner, (thermocouple lead), have you checked to make sure your flame on the burner is touching the tip of the "probe" on t'couple, if it isn't make sure that the ports on the burner are clear. If this does not solve problem then the thermocouple needs replacing by a Gas Safe engineer.

No flame touching thermocouple

There must be a blockage on the inner flame ring as the gas is not getting to the thermocouple .

The valves on my GE Profile Gas cooktop are broken and need to be replaced. The gas does not come on when you turn them.

You may have to hold them down whilst turned on to intitise s flame then release the knob the flame should stay on as the fsd has proved to the gas tap there is a flame so will stay on

Miele KM 342 - I have burner - will ignite when knob pushed in but once release knob flame goes out

Hi dear.According to you're explanation, there is flame failure safety device in each hob. Please check the hob, there is one ignition plug & one prob next to each other. Please clean them up with hard brush to get rid of the cleaning chemicals(Like: CIF)residue. It's a sensitive prob becareful when you do this. Please make sure it sees the flame. As long as it feels the heat it'll let hob to run.If that's not work, you may need to change it.Please do this if you know what you're doing, other wise call service department.I hope that helps.Thanks.

Miele gas cooktop flame shuts off after lighting. If I keep the button down longer to allow more gas to flow to the burner it will stay on.

Low flame from gas cooktop

you can adjust the flames as follows pull a knob and look in the end of the brass peice you will see a small screw first you have to find a screw driver that will fit then with a pair of pliers hold the outer peice with the burner on and turn the screw one way rasies other lowers ideal adj is to turn buner all the way up then fast down if flame goes out to low keep working like that till flame is low but doesnt go out
