unfortunately you may have to reset the unit. This will cause you to lose everything saved in memory so make sure its not just a DVD stuck in the mechanism. To reset to factory default turn unit off then press and hold Stop and press Standby/On

SOURCE: Aiwa AP-2600 Direct Drive Turntable - platter not rotating

if the platter is removable by you and easily, might need just a little cleaning and lube at the center . the platter is the top rotating plate that you were pushing to get started.simply pulls out around a center key. check with local service shops how much they would charge for this kind of cleaning and lubing. $25.00 might be a good price to allow a decision, whether to buy a new.

Lift the turn table off the case and check the belt if it has one or the idler wheel that mechanically turns the table. Also check the motor to see that it rotates when you simulate a record play moving the needle carrier towards the center, The power must be on to test it. Becareful not to touch the 115 VAC line.

It could be a bad connection of the earth pins to the cartridge. One turntable I had hummed even with an earth connection. I found out that the cause was the connection of the earth wire in a 3 pin plug.

How to adjust AIWA Turntable PX-E860U speed

Found this post trying to troubleshoot my Aiwa PX-E860U-after replacing the belt and lubricating bearings, the speed was off. 33 setting was playing slow. Here's the fix:
1. unplug and flip upside down
2. Locate the two holes marked 33 & 45 where black dots are visible underneath
3. Using a very small flat screwdriver(I used one from an eyeglass repair kit), adjust the speed clockwise for faster, counterclockwise for slower

this is a DIY solution, so not perfect, but it works. I played the tracks along to a Spotify recording to get a good match. Hope this helps someone else!

Should their be an earth/ground wire+fitting from the turntable also/or just switch on/off for play through aux?

You should use earth ground.

Inspect the power cord and look for a metal screen at the rear of the turntable.

Using earth ground will avoid "ground loop"

That's multiple path ways to ground.

Use one single wire and link all your audio equipment together and ground it.

Aiwa lx 70 turntable needle arm

This is not a solution but it is information. I just got one of these turntables and the platter rotates but the tonearm does not move. I took it apart after downloading the service manual and found that there are two small thin rubber belts that due to age have fallen apart and "melt" when you try to pick up the pieces. One controlled the sideways movement of the tonearm "carriage", the other controlled the lifting and lowering of the tonearm. The replacements are expensive (I think around $18 each) and in trying to pop loose a worm gear with a pulley buit into it, so that I could try a cheap rubber band out just to see if the unit would work with new bands, I broke the stiff plastic "retainer" that by its shape was designed to be pushed out of the way a bit to allow the worm gear to be removed. The service manual, by the way, had all sorts of information about how to make fine adjustments, but said nothing at all about how to replace the belts. Unless removed there was no way to put the replacement band in place over the gear/pulley combination because there was no exposed end to slip a complete band over. So I think it was a bad design, made worse by the aging of the components that made the bands melt and the plastic "keeper" brittle so that instead of flexing out the way it broke. So I'm going to recycle the components. I did not find any reviews to tell me how good a component unit this was, so before you hire a pro to try to fix this unit you need to figure out if it will be worth it to you in the long run. Anyway, good luck.

Distorted, cracked sound coming through to the speakers

is it possible your new reciever has a built in phono pre-amp?

If so, you need to switch off the pre-amp inside the turntable (lift up the rubber matt, and rotate the plate untill you see the switch at the back)

Try again now?

YAMAHA CD PLAYER WON'T PLAY

GG  My kids had a PlayStation 2 that did this and so did my AIWA 3 CD player.  The solution for the PlayStation was to remove the cover use alcohol and clean the lens of the laser reader.  They get dust on them and simply cannot read.  The AIWA required replacement of the laser which cost almost as much as the unit and didn't last 6 months.
