Question about HP Pavilion dv4000 Notebook

5 Answers

When starting my DV4000 - the screen is dark other than a cursor in the left corner.

When I start my HP Pavillion DV4000 - the screen is dark and a flashing cursor appears in the top left corner.
A friend helped run a systems check and it resulted in a "#2-07 Fail" message. I couldn't get beyond that point and the device still doesn't work.
Any ideas ?

My HP 4000 won't boot up. When I go to PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility and run the hard drive test I get a Test Status: #1- 07 Fail

Are there any other tests I can run? I don't want to buy another hard drive if something else is wrong. Thanks

That error indicates a hard drive problem. You probably have to replace the hard drive.

The blinking curser indicates searching for next instruction.so more than likely you are missing instruction data (win32 for instance) try to install fresh os or repair existing one.....
have os disk in drive ,rebooot , install from cd.

This is a known problem with certain HPWhen starting my DV4000 - the screen is dark other - 1.gif and Compaq laptops. Check out the link below to see if you qualify for the free service enhancement program. The same thing happened to me and HP is sending me a postage paid box to mail my laptop to them and they are going to fix it and mail it back.

Hp pavilion dv4000 pc notebook cant install windows xp from usb there is a continues blink cursor on the top left corner

You need to make the USB first boot in BIOS, or use the boot menu selection. Both are noted during start up.

Then there is the issue of the USB install is it bootable? You need software like Novicorp to make an USB Installer. gl

Hp pavilion 760n when turned on it makes clicking sound for a while and stops the monitor screen is blank with only a curser flashing in the top left corner.

The clicking is coming from the hard disk - it has died - so the BIOS is signalling that the OS is missing - cursor flashing in the top left corner.
Replace the hard disk and reinstall Windows.

Hi There,

Your laptop needs some troubleshooting and here's the fastest (and free) way to locate your issue. Get to a friend's place (or at home) where there's a regular desktop computer monitor and connect your laptop to it. Look up at the top row of "F" keys (1 thru 12) and find the one that looks like it has to do with a monitor. With your laptop connected to the external monitor, press the "fn" key in the lower left of keyboard and hold it doen while your press the monitor transfer F key above.

If your laptop's normal display shows on the big monitor, then you just have a bad sceen that needs replacement. If all is dark on both, then your video card inside the laptop has faild and a new motherboard is needed.

Kind Regards,

TheSelkie

Just installed windows 7 with an external cd/dvd and now it will only boot with the cd/dvd attached. otherwise a black screen appears with the cursor in the top left corner.

when it boots to a flashing cursor in the top left corner and everything else it working, this means that it is NOT finding the operating system on the hard drive, many times due to boot sector issues.
Make sure you set your hard drive to main or first startup device.

Hp dv4000 screen turned pink now black

If its not the backlight inverter or cable. It will be the LCD screen itself. It seems the shop you took it to isn't really up on laptop repair, as this is a common issue I see often. Get on Ebay and find a screen for your model and replace it. I asure you this will fix your problem.

Try new memory. That has fixed a problem I had with a different computer. But might work.

Hope this helps.
