Hi, follow the steps below to configure MR814 with your motorola surfboard:

CONNECTIONS:

1. Connect a Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port of the router (isolated port).
2. Connect the computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports. Please make sure that there is no direct connection between the modem and the computer (either using Ethernet cable or USB cable).
3. Power off the modem and the router after making the connections.
4. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.
RECONFIGURE:
1. Open the browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari).
2. Access the router, usually with http://192.168.0.1
3. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the Username and Password are case sensitive).
4. Click on 'Basic settings' from the left menu and select 'Use Computers MAC Address' from 'router MAC Address' section.
5. Click Apply.
6. Once it updates the settings then power off the modem and the router. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

Double check again your your Wan Connection is connect properly, usually it does. And also do not limit your internet connection on PC so that it cannot get obtain IP Address like (0.0.0.0) repair or reset again your internet connection on the Wireless Router.

I'm using an SB5101 and trying to use a new wireless router with this modem, but the set up is saying I have a static IP address... where can I find that on my computer whil I'm using my old router? thanks

I have one, after finding out how reliable and well-made they are. However, they can be picky during setup, especially since they have a rare 'config IP' address (the number you type into your internet browser's address bar to change the modem's settings). Click here >> 192.168.100.1
See this link for more info.

I cant find my wep key. I have a SB5101 motorola router and I have windows XP. I've tried many different ways and I still cant find it. I have a different ip address then most people, so when I enter...

The SB5101 is *not* a router, its a cable modem, much less sophisticated than a router.
It does not provide a local network (192.168.x.x IPs) and no network address translation (mapping the an external IP to local IPs)
Your IP looks unfamiliar because it is a public IP assigned to you by your service provider.

There are no configurable elements provided by this device, it does not have a configuration web interface.

Modem is off line. Comcast can't get it to connect. When it is hooked up my ip address starts with 169. which they say is a computer problem. When I hook up my old I can connect ok. the ip address changes....

only they can fix there silly modem and system ! if dead.
"my old" what does that mean>?
that is only a CABLE ONLY model. from Comcast (theirs)
that means NO ROUTER. < never run lacking one. buy one.
SURFboard SB5101 DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem
no wifi at all, there just one Ethernet port (sublan)
best is add router (say netgear) to this this old modem
and then let the router do its job and all IOT, all work.
IOT is internet of THINGS. (all)
test wired first then play with wifi, last, set it up. per the routers manual
or ask
buy a router first , own one, not old , new , new are safe.
routers only not cable/router combo's
like Netgear AC750 on up.
R6020 like these (not docsis)
the costs are based on speed.
https://www.walmart.com/search?q=netgear&sort=price_low

you must RTM , to set up any router. Read the manual.
set SSID
use WPA1/2 mode
set in a wifi password, ( a good one, that is safe.)

check out the new Netgear that have preset SSID.

https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/R6020/R6020_UM_EN.pdf

I like where Netgear is going with that. pre assigned at the factory,
and ready to run, no setup.. for noobs a big deal that.
but your are not locked out of settings at all, PAGE 57

How do i change my sb5101 motorola modem to bridge mode? so i can start using my netgear router

You shouldn't have to change anything except on the router. Cable to modem, Ethernet from the cable modem to wan port of the router, Lan ports to PC's. Instruct your router to use cable and not dsl, set acorrdingly to DHCP or static IP, set MTU to 1500 and go...

Trying to get my ps3 connected so i can get online

You need to disable the UPnP function on the Belkin router. Log into the router(192.168.2.1), and look under System Settings. If you haven't changed the password on the router, the default password is blank, i.e., no password.

Ip adress

go to the network connections page on your computer, then find your connection and right click it and move down to status... there should be a tab that says support... click it and you should see the ip address assigned to your modem by the ISP.
