Describe your problem I need an instruction manual for a Dirt Devil upright model 088305.
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Dirt Devil Model #M088300 Upright Vacuum. The best idea is to contact the Royal Customer Service Dept and give them the model 3 and serial 3 of the unit you are requesting the owner’s manual for, I will give you the website address and phone # listed below:
So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

I had the same problem and could not find the other screws. You need to pry off the power cord retraction button, you will find two more screws under there. It's pretty easy after that!!!!

I live in Israel. My vacuum cleaner broke down. Where can I fix it in my country.
SOURCE: After removing the filter, I cannot get to battery
sheesh, did anyone actually read the person's question? It's about the battery, not the filter.
You have to get the outer cover off and it's not easy. There are four tabs which need to be released. I have to use a very sharp, heavy duty knife and jam something in at each tab. Eventually I was able to get the cover off.
The battery compartment appear to be 6 sub-C NiCd batteries. These are tack welded together in series. They aren't cheap unless ordering from China. Honestly, it's probably not worth the effort unless you are like me and want to fix stuff for satisfaction.
This answer may be too late for you, but may help someone else.
