Hello, i bought my Acer about 10 months ago. Im in Iraq so it is very dusty but i still seem to be having more problems with my notebook than most people with older model laptops!! First my disc drive stopped working all together a couple months ago and i just finally gave up on it and started using my dvd player. My most current issue, though, is the 3 usb ports on my notebook. None of them work! Nothing that i plug in is recognized on the laptop. I tried to troubleshoot on windows but nothing works. Please help!
Maybe they are already fried. Try putting a device like a USB based fan or mobile charger that just uses the outside 2 points. If that does not work then some fuses are blown on usb bus. Your USB may need to be checked enabled in BIOS.
In case you find USB is dead then you can buy a PCMCIA based USB card.
Is there any possibility that they could have been inavertently turned off in the bios? Forgive me if this has already been addressed...but if you have not checked it, reply to me and I can walk you through it.

Only old and some professional printed can use the ECP port. Modern printers, use USB ethernet and lately wireless.
Manufactures stopped making the ECP on printers, over 10 years ago.
Not knowing what Acer you mean I assume it does to have a port like this.
I found a strange cable on the net, but I'm not saying it will work.
I Got off the phone with Acer Support...the lady with the heavy accent was very pleasant and informative. She told me to do System Restore and I have done so back to the 16th. Still no yellow marks in device manager everything says working properly. My flash drive still has no response but my blackberry power symbol shows up and charges but will not detect as a device in Computer. She recommended a "Full System Recovery" basically re-format. I really hope I don't have to do that I just bought this thing less than a month ago...I do a lot of computer work for others but no experience with windows 7 or vista and first time ever seeing a problem with USB.
hello, this has been one of the most reported problem with the 5100 model. i have 2 of them, and they have done the same thing! one i had 2 find and install a new mainboard-400 bucks! not very cost friendly. i did post a solution more than a year ago, but it is a work around that let me use the acer with the dead keyboard,touchpad,usb- you must buy a pcmcia usb card, it goes in the slot on the left side of the acer 5100. then a usb mouse and keyboard will work. (you can get this cardbus adapter cheap, as 400 bucks is 2 much. these pcmcia cardbus card come with 2 or 4 ports. this will let you use the pc, it has been a great solution for me and a lot of others, been in use over a year like this. acer is no help, unless you wish 2 spend a large amount of $. the one with the new board lasted about 8 months before the usb port stopped working for the second time, i then got a second cardbus usb card and have usb again. sorry for your problem.. good luck! do as i say and the acer will work again.( a problem model) just search for pcmcia usb cardbus you will find many 2 choose from- i picked the ones with the NEC chipset, as these are reliable! be well!
make sure that dust has not fill the port use compressed air ,buy a can from walmart or any biglot store ,next check to see if you have device conflick ,the easy way to fix this is buy a usb hub $6 biglot powerd one are even faster you can connect up to a100+ in a daisy chain .problem solved
I hope i can help resolve your problem for you.
this may be a problem relating to your system device driver files.
go to My Computer/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager. at the bottom of the page you will see USB.
If you have any yellow symbols ( exclamation Marks ) then the driver has been corrupted, or installed incorrectly.
if you have a system restore disk. this may solve the problem for you. or recovery cd.
If you require further assistance, please ask.
