My computer shows the following message when booting "disk read error press ctrl,alt,del to restart " .
-i'm using windows xp drive is formatted in ntfs
-i cannot repair using windows console, i get a massage saying there is no harddisk
-i slaved it on another ntfs formatted harddisk , but i get a message saying disk not formatted
can someone please help me

Ifyou have compressed the hard disk drive using the Compress drive to save disk space option under the Propertiesmenu for your hard disk drive and have performed a non-destructive recovery ora system recovery, the following error message may appear:
NTLDR is compressed. Press CRTL-ALT-DEL to restart.
This error message is resolved byfollowing these steps:
1.Insert the Windows XP CD drive onthe computer and restart the computer.
2.Press F12 when the computer firststarts, then select CD-ROM, click any key to boot into windows startup.
3.When you get to the install windowsXP screen:
4.Press Rto repair the Windows XP installation using Recovery Console.
5.Enter the appropriate number for theWINDOWS installation, for example, the WINDOWS installation could be listed as 3:C:\WINDOWS or 3: D:\WINDOWS .
6.If prompted, enter yourAdministrator password and press Enter . If there is no password, justpress Enter .
7.At the prompt, if the WINDOWSinstallation you selected in Step 4 was C:\WINDOWS, type:

load optimal or fail save setting then check if it eliminates the problem if it didn't work. reinstall the ide cable of your hard disk check if it eliminates the problem if it also didn't work back up your hard drive for important file, delete and create hard disk file system, partition and reformat your hard drive if this also didnt work replace your hard disk.
Open cpu cabinet and Refix RAM some times bootable files not load on ram properly so this error comes. So refix RAM memory clean dust from circuit and RAM . Also pull cmos cell from motherbord for 5 minutes so all settings are defaults then check.
The problem is caused by Formatting the HDD in Vista before moving back to the system.
Simplest fix, hook it back to the Vista system and delete the partition from the drive in disk management. Once that is done, then put the drive with no partition in the XP system and boot to the XP CD, create a new partition and install XP
