Screen does not display images, either in playback or camera mode. It appears to snap pics and does display all the screen menu data as per normal. images are however not displayed? Please help
There is a button on the back that can be pressed called Disp. (stands
for Display). There are two or three settings it flips through each
time you press the button. Press this button a few times to cycle through
the choices in each of the playback and camera mode to see if this resolves your issue. Happy snapping...

I think I found the problem... There has been a report that the wiring has come loose on select models (of which the A70 is part of the list). Here is the link to the advisory in a blog (search for the text below to find the exact reference), and the link to Canon for the actual service/malfunction report.

You'd should call to have the tech support confirm this however, so you're not barking up the wrong tree, but though you'd like to know of the possibility.
Cheers ...

Have you checked the display mode you're in? If you have the display set to off (to save power) and also the picture review time set to off, then you'll just see a black screen. Try pressing the 'Disp.' button below the screen when the camera is on - it should cycle through different settings with each press: Off, On, On with picture info. Similarly, in the playback mode this will show you more or less info about the picture you are viewing.
Even if the display is switched off, if you have your 'review' option in the menu set to anything other than Off (i.e. 2 seconds), then you should see the picture you've taken appear on the screen straight after taking it.
If it's not that, then I don't know the answer....
