Go here and find a nice substitute. Many to choose from and it may be better to purchase a pair of them rather than have mis-matched ones. They should be inexpensive enough for you, as low as $2 up to $480. You just need the size of the mounting hole to find a replacement though.

I'd recommend starting with the local importer of Wharfdale products to see if they have exact replacement tweeters for sale. Contact:

If you are unable to get tweeters from them, see if they will recommend a replacement or at the very least, provide you with the specifications, including the impedance, crossover point,frequency response, and power handling capability. If they won't or can't provide the information, then you are on you own. You'll want a relatively high-quality product, most likely 8ohm (but could be 16), crossover between 5-8KHz, frequency response from crossover to infinity (or at least beyond the range of human hearing).

Then try www.partsexpress.com. They have a large selections of speaker building products and carry small tweeters like yours in several brands, price ranges, and quality levels. Vifa is excellent. Tang Band is good. Goldwood is acceptable for entry-level speakers.

Is the tweeter a stand alone 8 ohm speaker?

yes, but it is attached to circuitry that allows only the high frequecies into it. You can replace the speaker with any 8 ohm tweeter without any difficulty, but if there is a capacitor across or in series with the speaker, make sure you put it on you new speaker the same way.

These speakers are 3-way there are 2 woofers and 1 tweeter per speaker. Here are the technical specifications of each speaker:

please be advised you need the crossover that came with it, or you will need an active crossover dedicated to an amplifier to run these.

Can't get wharfedale melton 2 tweeter to work. Looked inside cabinet and need advice on internal wiring please. These are very old but one works perfectly and the 12'' bass driver on the problem speaker is...

The tweeter has burned out and cannot be salvaged. I also own a pair of (ex) Melton 2s. In the beginning Wharfedale were good at supplying spares (see www.wharfedale.co.uk for contact info and advice). A few years ago after my cat destroyed the 12 inch unit in one, i invested in new insides, including state of the art 12 inch woofers, 4 inch mid range and 1inch tweeters with a good 3 way crossover. The cabinet is great so consider asking a techie friend to do this for you. Please don't just cut out and connect to amp speaker wires! You will get terrible sound and risk ruining both amp and speakers! Best regards Karl ([email protected])

Tweeter not working

Check the continuity of the removed tweeter with a VOM meter (I use an original Heatkit MM-1 available on eBay for $20) and do the 1.5 volt battery click & scratch test mentioned above.

Celestion A3 tweeters (also used in the A1 and A2 speakers) or the replacement diaphragms are no longer available from Celestion. A1 speakers show up regularly on the United Kingdom eBay website for $300 or less and are small enough to economically ship to the USA. You would also end up with a midrange spare speaker (assuming it is the same as in the A3 cabinets)

The part number for the A series 3 bar tweeter is T4969/P. The 3 bars refers to the 3 bars in the casting to protect the dome. I got this number from the box of my spare tweeter I have the earlier 1 bar castings in my A3's.

Go to www.ersatzteil-versand.at do an "artikelsuche" (article search) for the number T4969/P and something extremeley similar shows up except that they list the manufacturer as Onkyo. The part number and description are so similar to what is printed on my spare tweeter box it would be worth 81 euros to see what shows up.
I have designed an adapter plate for either a Scan-Speak Revelator Tweeter D2904/710002 4 ohm, 1" soft dome, 70 mm diameter magnet, $220 or a Vifa D27TG35-06 6 ohms, 72 mm diameter magnet, 91 db, $37.50..Both are available from:

I only modeled the front flange of the tweeter to save time. I have not built any of these yet but the price would probably be $400 for a pair of adapter plates and speaker flange modifications. But when you are done you would have replaceable tweeter for a long time to come. The 2 protective bars are drawer handles available for $3 each.

I have 1 set of wharfedale speakers valdus 400 .power handling (programme) 150W .normal impedance 4-8ohms.1 of the tweeter is not working .please advise how to repair asap ,thanks

you should first try if the driver is really gone or not, maybe it's just a wiring problem, also there can be something wrong with the cross-over network. Check the tweeter with a multimeter, if you don't see something between 2-16 ohms, you need a new one (or two, you probably won't be able to find the original part, so you'll have to change both left and right channel drivers) but if you see the desired impedance on the meter, check the internal wiring, crossover solder joints, capacitors, etc. I hope this helps.

Hifonics AS5.5Ci tweeter soldering !

Because they are tweeters, and only 4 months old. take them back for warranty. Most manufacturers will give 6-12 months.

Wharfedale Modus One

The tweeters are probably blown, i had the same problem.
You can test this by placing the cable on the dismanteled crossover at the back of the speaker. colour blue/yellow.
No high volume please.

If the tweeter is blown it can be dismanteld with the aid of a screwdriver, horizontally.
Place it between the tweeterbowl and the ring which has the mark wharfedale on it. The tweeter comes loose. On second hand sites you can buy little speakers, like modus one or two's with the same tweeters for a good price and put them on your larger speakers.

This how i repaired 2 of my 4 modus eights.
