Probably needs the bulb replaced. Look in your manual for a bulb replacement number, surf the net, there is a lot out there to choose from. But.... make sure you buy a original hitachi replacement bulb. Hope this is helpful.

you need a new light engine, very common problem, you could get hitachi to send you the parts no charge if you press them enough, will save you $600 in parts.

lamp door has to be closed

Your lamp is burned out . I have a 52" hitachi lcd as well, and i have hadd to replace the lamp once a year. its a mercury based bulb which emulates alot of heat and if your exhaust fans are not working properly it will cuase it to fail or burn out more frequently than it should. cost is @ $120.00 for replacement bulb

Step1 Turn off the TV, and unplug it. Make sure to disconnect it from the outlet completely. Step2 Locate the bulb door of the TV. This is often on the back, near the power cord. Slide the door open and reveal the bulb. Step3 Unscrew the screws. Some screws are thumbscrews, while others may require a screwdriver. Step4 Gently remove the bulb. Pull the bulb out of the compartment, usually by grasping a handle and then pulling out and slightly down. Step5 Install the new bulb. Line up the groove on top of the new bulb's housing with the groove pocket on the inside of the television. Slide the new one into place. Step6 Tighten the screws. Do not overtighten them; they should be finger-tight only. Step7 Close the door. Make sure it is closed completely or the TV will not operate.

Projection TV makers charge an arm and a leg for their replacement lamps. They make it easy to do but as a result the custom lamp assy is expensive. The trick is to just buy the bulb for your model TV from any number of us aftermarket sources at a fraction of the lamp price and install it in the old lamp yourself. really easy. Some models are real bulb hogs though. Look them up on the net (include the word complaint or repair) before you buy, or you might be sorry. Many class action lawsuits out there - even against some of the name brand makers.
