SOURCE: why frequently relight my pilot?

check for water run off from above or sprinklers directed at heater. A high wind stack may be needed due to heater location. Millivolt models have a thermocouple or pilot generator that may be faulty or weak. Loose or rusty connections of the thermocouple to the gas valve or loose coil connection, or short in these wires can shut off a pilot.

SOURCE: Pilot relighting Garland Commercial range

The main burner valve is the oven valve. The pilot will be next to the burner and you either have to insert a long shiskabob stick ( lit) into the hole or lift up on the bottom of the oven (inside) and you will see the pilot.

Light pilot light

Many heaters have pilot flames can be relighted with a match or push button operation. Many employ safeguards to prevent unburnt fuel from accumulating in the space or allowing an unstable pilot flame from "proving".

Most appliances have instructions printed or embossed on or near the pilot, gas valve or protective cover. It is very important to closely follow these instructions for your safety and that of others in the area. If you are unable to locate the instructions or follow them and relight the pilot, you should contact the gas company for assistance. This can be in indication of an issue with fuel, thermocouple, gas valve, etc., and would require a service person to correct.

I have included a link to a video to light a gas heater - yours may be the same or similar:

Have a Model #21V40-7 Natural Gas Rheem water heater and the pilot has apparently gone out. Can you tell me how to restart the pilot and what position the controls should be in for this model and...

The main control knob will have a "Pilot" position. Set it there, then light the pilot. You may have to press and hold the control knob to do that. There may be a striker button that will relight the pilot while you're holding the control knob or you may need to use a match or a candle lighter.

Once the pilot is on for 30 seconds or so, it will remain lit when you release pressure on the control knob.

My Williams wall heater, installed in 2003, has a problem with the pilot constantly going off. The thermocouple is fine. My handyman suspects the limit switch. Any other ideas?

Hi, how did you test the thermocouple?
My problem is that once the heater is fully on (pilot + full flames going) it totally turns off in 3-10 minutes. Then, I have to go through the sequence of relighting the pilot light, etc.
I thought it was the limit switch rollout, but I tested that under various conditions, including within a minute after the heater completely turned off by itself.

My raypak heater won't relight and the pilot is on

For the heater to burn, there must be water pressure and flow - and the heater must know of it. It is not enough that you know the pump is on, the heater must know it. Check your heater's water pressure switch.

What about the filter pressure ... high filter pressure would indicate need for a backwash. dirty filters slow the water flow. If your filter normally runs at 20 PSI (when clean) it should be backwashed at 30 PSI, rule of thumb = 10 psi over 'startup pressure'.

Your heaters job is to heat the water ... think of it as a very agressive bully. The water is absolutely necessary to keep the bully in check.
