I doubt the printer will work. You need to go to properties in the program you are trying to print from to change from color to black and white, but again I doubt the printer will print without both cartridges installed properly.

SOURCE: printing

Likely your purge unit needs cleaning...

Make sure by printing out a test page from printer (not from computer).

If test page is good, you have a software issue. If test page is bad, you need to clean your head and/or purge unit.

SOURCE: can't rotate ink cartridge to change

Read some of the other problems and answers and found out how to move the cassettes around manually.
Press a little spring loaded button beneath an oval hole to the left of the cassette removal hole with something like a key or flat screwdriver. This enables the cassettes to be moved around manually anti-clockwise until the one that needs changing is in position. Then just carefully pull it out. Push in the new cassette after rolling and rocking to ensure the toner is distributed as advised in all instructions.
This method is actually much easier that trying to do it from the software in your your PC or Mac. Don't know if it means that some things are not reset - but it worked perfectly for me. In fact once I knew how, it was the easiest cassette change I have ever done........!

Trying to print documents, white background with black typed words. Problem I have is the printed documents have solid dark blue and solid black ink and the words don't show.

Are the ink cartridges installed in the correct colour order?
Have you printed a test page through the printer's own control panel? What was the result?
Open a new document, using the default settings. Key in some test text. Try printing. What is printed?

I have just installed a new colour and a new black ink cartridge but it will only print in black and white and not colour. Why??

check your settings under the Printer settings... you might have changed it to BLACK & WHITE only.

Make sure that you have the global settings set so that by default the printer uses BEST Quality depending on model.

What does it mean when it says change k cartridge

There should be four ink cartridges inside the printer: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and blacK.

While monitors build colours out of three emissive (active) base colours, red, green and blue, printers usually build them out of four absorbing (passive) inks, so-called CMYK. The black is referred to by its last letter to avoid confusion with Blue.

On most printers, since they usually print in black ink over white paper (and black is used to darken all other colours), the K cartridge is either bigger than the others, or needs to be replaced more often.

Printing in just black and white

Epson,. has it rigged, that you must have ink in all the cartridges.............! Doesnt make a difference, if you are printing black and white ONLY.

You have to replace them.

Good Luck......

Will not print color

Check to make sure that the nozel for your colour cartridge isn't dried up. A cartridge could be full of ink but inable to release any if it hasn't been used in awhile. Also be sure that your settings in the printer control panel aren't set to monochrome/black & white.

Epson stylus DX 7450 doesn't print black

Hello, This can be FIXED. I'm not trying to be helpful. I'm here to FIX your problem.

You want to make changes to the printer settings to once again print in Black and White or Grayscale mode by going to Start Menu, Control Panel, Printers. Right click your printer and select Properties. Now make the changes to everything prints Black and White or Grayscale. This will make the change effective system wide as opposed to what you did which was for a single print job in a program.

Now, unfortunately, you will still get an error message that your color cartridges are empty anyway because they are.

To disable the error message do this.
Press and Hold the Stop/Reset button for 6 full seconds and then release it? Use the one Mississippi method of counting.

This will disable the empty cartridge error on most Epson printers.

Let me know of your results as I am here to FIX your problem. I'm not here to be helpful. I will work with you until this is FIXED or is now FIXED. OK? Use the comment box below to let me know your results.

Some machines are very expensive to run.

If you are copying in colour mode, even if the page you are copying is just black & white, it will use all four colours to produce the black copy.

Change the mode to black and white and it should save you some money!

Black printing morphs into red after black ink cartridge installation

Your printer creates it's black by using ALL the colours together. This effectively gives a very dark purple rather than black.

It sounds like you have a colour cart that is drying up or may be struggling to get enough air into the cartridge. Make sure you have removed any tape over the vent holes if you are using compatible inks. If not then try running a couple cleaning cycles via the button panel/driver.

If you alter the settings in the driver by going into START - PRINTERS AND FAXES and then right click on your 2610 and select PROPERTIES - the changes you make in here will be set as the default settings for each print job.
