SOURCE: Cisco error on switch

%SYS-4-P2_WARN: 1/Tag 0 The switch generates %SYS-4-P2_WARN: 1/Tag 0… messages.
This example shows the syslog output that you see when this error occurs:
%SYS-4-P2_WARN: 1/Tag [dec] on packet from [ether] port [chars],
but port's native vlan is [dec] This message indicates that an 802.1Q-tagged packet was received on a nontrunk port. The VLAN that is derived from the packet tag is different from the port native VLAN. In the error message:

  • The Tag [dec] is the VLAN identifier from the packet.
  • The [ether] is the host MAC address.
  • The port [chars] is the port identifier.
  • The second [dec] is the native VLAN number.
There is a possibility that the local port is incorrectly configured as an access port instead of a trunk port. Alternately, the remote side can have been configured as a trunk port instead of an access port.
Verify that the local port is not incorrectly configured as an access port instead of a trunk port. Also, verify that the remote side is not configured as a trunk port instead of an access port.

SOURCE: connectivity with my comcast cable

I have a comcast for 10 years with a cable modem and tv. The only time I ever had problems and they were major, they needed to run a new line, that's the only thing that stoped the signal from droping.Previous to that, there was an inline amp on the line, and that would have intermittent isues that you describe. Another reason may be the modem, it may be the "old" unit, tell them you need a new modem. They are going to give you a hard time because you aren't using their modem, so every time you call, they are going to ask you to disconnect the router and run through the modem. They can read the modem from their side, and if it is "on", they will stop right there. You are speaking to someone who is out of the country. I made the mistake one day of asking them if there was construction going on in my area, "because they daisy chain" the connection, and if the house next to you has the cable pulled out, it can effect you. The woman told me "she didn't see anything" so I asked her where she was because the homes on both sides werer having work done, She was in India, they outsource to Canada and India so it would be difficult to see if there was construction in Fl.They are only going to react to things that they are authorised to fix. Call them and tell them that your modem goes on and off, forget the router for now, ask for the motorola 8500 series. You may have to ask for a supervisor and don't let them talk you out of it. You also should tell them that your intermittent issue happens wheather the router is on or off, since they don't understand unless they walk you through the basic troubleshooting, which is a waste of time. You are loosing your signal because the modem is droping the connection, you can also look on the Linksys home page, and see if there is a firmware upgrade for your router, but make sure you get the right version number of the bottom. The last thing to check is to see if they have "filters" on your line, they can also cause problems with the modem. If you have a private home or condo, there is a box that stands out someware on the lawn or off to the side. Usually its not locked. Pull off the top and see if you see silver cylindrical looking tubes about 3 inches long inline with your cable line going into the box. If so they may be causing the problem. I had 3 of their trucks on my lawn at one time, and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. ten minutes after they left I had everything running. The problem is subcontractors, are doing the work and you either get a good one or a bad one, you need to keep having them come out until they get it right. So just to go over it again, Modem, Firmware on router, Wiring coming in, Filters on the line. Get to a supervisor right away or you will have to tell the story several times. Also if they do come out, ask him what his meter is telling him your signal strength is. Cable is shared and if others are using their service at high load times, that is another reason that your connection must be perfect, or this is going to be ongoing. good luck

SOURCE: I have a 3Com Router,

The commands are different than a Cisco device. Rather than try to list all the commands in this solution I'm providing you a link to the products support page on the HP website (HP bought 3Com a while back). The support site has the manuals, command reference guides, etc for your device. It should be everything you need to get started. Best of luck!

Voice configuration on catalyst 3750V2

The short answer: No

The long answer: You will need a device that will handle call control. That can be an ISR router (gen2 example: Cisco 1900, 2900, or 3900 series) that runs Call Manager Express, or a Cisco UC5XX Box (or even full blown CUCM, though you will still need an ISR to get out to the PSTN). The switch will work great for the infrastructure side of things though. It is capable of layer 3 routing, voice VLANs, QoS, and PoE. But you WILL need something for call control.

It is possible to use cisco switches in networking with out a router...from modem to switch to PC

Yes, in order to do this you would simply have to create a Layer 3 switch, if you are unfamiliar how to do this, click here

Note* if you are not Cisco certified, not experienced in configuring switches and routers from within the operating system, or do not have the necessary equipment or software, it is not recommended you attempt this, as it may cause permanent damage to your switch if the improper commands are entered and configured on the switch.

If you are unsure or do not feel comfortable creating a Layer 3 switch, have someone you know who is Cisco certified or a computer repair shop configure this for you.

How does a router and a splitter looks like and how as well they differ?

A router is a more sophisticated network device than either a switch or a hub. Like hubs and switches, network routers are typically small, box-like pieces of equipment that multiple computers can connect to. Each features a number of "ports" the front or back that provide the connection points for these computers, a connection for electric power, and a number of LED lights to display device status. While routers, hubs and switches all share similiar physical appearance, routers differ substantially in their inner workings.

Splitter is nothing but a Switch.
Switches may operate at one or more OSI layers, including physical, data link, network, or transport (i.e., end-to-end). A device that operates simultaneously at more than one of these layers is known as a multilayer switch.
In switches intended for commercial use, built-in or modular interfaces make it possible to connect different types of networks, including Ethernet, Fibre Channel, ATM, ITU-T G.hn and 802.11. This connectivity can be at any of the layers mentioned. While Layer 2 functionality is adequate for bandwidth-shifting within one technology, interconnecting technologies such as Ethernet and token ring are easier at Layer 3.
Interconnection of different Layer 3 networks is done by routers. If there are any features that characterize "Layer-3 switches" as opposed to general-purpose routers, it tends to be that they are optimized, in larger switches, for high-density Ethernet connectivity.
