When you installed the new carb did you adjust it for your engine? Idle control, idle mixture, fast misture? Running only with choke indicates that engine is not getting enough gas routinely via the main jet.

Testimonial: "Unless I'm blind, there are no noticeable adjustments on this carburetor. I figured any adjustments were done at factory."

They are there but they don't want you to touch them. Under the idle adjuster you will see two round screws with no slits in them. You need special tool to adjust them. Emissions bs.
BTW, all engines are different and the replacement carb has to be tailored for the engine it is placed on. Store bought units are done at the factory before shipping.

Give this YouTube video a look. Sounds like your problem.
Since you mentioned your fuel filter, make sure it and the fuel line are in good shape.

SOURCE: Troy Bilt Trimmer 75SS stalls at full throttle. new gas

Hello. Let me assist you. Since your trimmer runs but stalls at ful throttle it is telling you that there is a fuel problem. Not enough gas is getting through the carbeurator to satisfy the engines needs on full throttle. Most likely the carbeurator is gummed up. A common problem. Let's see if we can un gum it by getting a can or carbeurtor cleaner. Go to any auto parts store and talk to the clerk about your need.

SOURCE: TROY BILT TB 70 TRIMMER-NEW

If you rebuilt the carb did you turn any of the screws on the carb while cleaning or take out, you might have just the low idle screw closed a little to much open half turn and see what happens. If you look at the carb where needle screws are located on the side,if you have two screws it will be stamped with an " L " and?or an " H " next to each screw. If you only have one screw then turn that one, to left to get more fuel. Good Luck...

On a Troy-Bilt pressure washer I've cleaned carburetor clean the gas tank put in new gas it will start with starter fluid but will not run

I’m not that familiar with their pressure washer but I was able to get a few more years out of my string trimmer with a more in-depth cleaning than I was used to. I had let my trimmer set up through two seasons because I had someone doing my lawn. Steve is right about the tiny passages. I took my carb apart and “cleaned with some spray can parts cleaner wiped the parts dry and reassembled. Didn’t work. An old shade-tree friend showed me that I needed to soak the parts in cleaner. Their was a small steel mesh screen that I wasn’t able to clean with just the spray. I also CAREFULLY used compressed air to blow out those small passages. I did eventually replace the carb but got a few more years before I had to. Check your filters also. They’re cheap to replace.

When weed eater is running in order to get the head to turn i've got to give it full throttle before i can cut the grass, and it still bogs down.

do you have two adjustment screws down in a hole in the carb?
If you do they are the carb. high and low adjustment.
What I do is take a hacksaw and cut a groove right in the housing an the screw heads .that way you can adjust them Good luck

Troy Bilt XP self propelled mower

Normally an indication of poor air flow. Replace air filter. Clean outside of carb with carb cleaned to ensure choke is free to operate. Go real slow in tall grass, some mowers don't have the torque to do tall grass, only use 1/2 of the deck width and have side discharge open.

My troy built starts but will not speed up enough to use even after it warms up. It is 2 years old but only has 3-4 hours of use on it . Can you help me?

Is it 2 cycle or 4 cycle? Meaning, does it take plain gas, or mixed gas?

Clean the plug, clean the carb with either choke cleaner (4 cycle) or wd-40 (2 cycle) by spraying it into the choke hole after you take off the air filter.

You may also want to spray some of the choke cleaner or wd-40 into the gas tank with the gas to help clean out the whole fuel system.

Only use choke cleaner for 4-cycle regular gas units. For mixed gas, use wd-40 in place of choke cleaner.

Try to start it and then go back and forth from half choke to full choke until it starts picking up.

25cc weed eater, will only idle

double check your carb as it should have a screw for the fuel mixture. some carbs have a plastic piece over them that only lets you move the screws so far if you need more extreme adjustment they pull out about a 1/8th of a inch then you can turn in then push it back in, same principals as making a flame on a bic lighter bigger, if you cant find it take some pics of your carb and email them to me @ [email protected] and i will point them out

I have a Troy Bilt weed eater and am having a problem. It starts with the choke on, but it will not run with the choke off.

Ths problem is possibly indicating the need for a new fuel pump diaghram in the Zama carburetor. A carb rebuild kit installed correctly should alleviate this problem and greatly improve throttle response on the unit. The ethanol in the fuel nowadays plays havoc on carb parts and they become less flexible and more brittle, thus affecting performance and leading to problems with throttle response and carburetor functions such as this.
