3am is the freeview box update time it will do this every day at 3am the loud click you hear you should not hear it but it may be the update switch that turns the tv out of standby for the freeview to be updated its a different switch that turn this on and may be sticking.
3AM is when the Windows Auto Update program runs. Which version of Windows do you run?
Try disabling auto update:
GotoStart > Control Panel>
Windows Update and click on Change SettingsSelect the radio button next to "check for update but let me choose whether to download and install them"
This way the system will always prompt you for your permission before running the updates
you're not supposed to change the time at certain times if it is an automatic. I think any time after 8pm and before 4am (but check your manual). Apparently it messes up the mechanism. Maybe that's the issue?
