The tune up mode on these chargers is a three stage charging process which helps to prolong the life and endurance of you batteries . to put the charger into tune up mode all you have to do is press the yellow button on the back right hand corner of the charger , when the batteries is being charged in tune up mode the charge time in considerably longer than the normal 1 hour charge time .i would recommend to use the tune up mode at least every 4 - 5 chargers to maximize the the life of your battery's .if you are not using the battery's flat out all the time it will not hurt to use tune up all the time. I hope this gives you a good insight into the operation and care of your battery's and charger.

Jan 31 2013. The unit was recalled and is discontinued, but you can still buy them on the net. The replacement model, #9310, is more expensive. I have no opinion or experience, whether the older 9116 works as well to maintain and condition batteries, but both models are SUPPOSED to be dual NiCd and NiMh capable.
