The governor shaft must turn freely. You will probably have to remove the shaft and clean it and the bushes it runs on with some wet & dry emery cloth and lube it. You could try some CRC penetrating oil on the shaft position it so the oil runs down the shaft and keep spraying & working it but that may not work.

Throttle adj on cub cadet pushmower

There is no variable throttle control for this model i.e there is no lever for engine throttle on the handle bar?

If yes, then engine speed is fixed and open throttle is normal.

The motion of the linkage is merely movement of the governor mechanism. Wide open is normal when engine is not running. The governor will close down the throttle as engine starts and reaches the fixed operating speed. There will be adjustments but on a fixed speed model only the running speed is considered adjustable.

WARNING Improper adjustments of the governor and carburetor linkage may lead to catastrophic engine failures.

How to adjust governor on a Tecumseh hmsk80?

Static Governor Adjust.

With the engine stopped, loosen the screw holding the
governor clamp on the governor lever. Rotate the clamp in
a direction that will force the throttle shaft open and allow
the governor follower arm to rest on the governor spool.
Push the governor lever connected to the throttle to the
wide open throttle position. Hold the lever and clamp in
this position while tightening the screw.

Kohler V-Twin (624 cc) RPM on the engine does not stay stable , It will raise and lower the RPM in any Throttle Range. Could the Governor be going bad???

Try a static governor adjustment first as it simply be out adjustment.

Static Adjustment Procedure
Make this adjustment whenever governor arm is
loosened or removed from cross shaft. Adjust as follows:
1. Make sure throttle linkage is connected to governor
arm and throttle lever on carburetor.
2. Loosen nut holding governor lever to cross shaft.
3. Move governor lever toward carburetor as far as it
will go (wide open throttle) and hold in this position.
4. Insert a long thin rod or tool into hole on cross shaft
and rotate shaft clockwise (viewed from end) as far
as it will turn, then torque nut to 6.8 N·m (60 in. lb.).

Governor reset

Are you asking how to reset governor linkage to factory spec? If so, move governor arm in direction that opens throttle valve on carb wide open. Hold in this position. Loosen small nut on bottom of governor arm. With a needle nose pliers turn center arm that goes into engine in the same direction you turned governor arm to open throttle valve. Holding in position, now tighten nut on governor arm tight again. This is referred to as a static setting and is factory spec. Good luck!

Lt 166 govenor adjustments how to

Your governor should not need adjusting unless someone moved it and you want to go back to factory setting. Having said that. You will loosen small nut on bottom of governor, follow the travel of governor to watch the throttle in wide open position. Hold it in that position then with needle nose grip the center of stud coming out of bottom center of governor and move this all the way in same direction as wide open throttle, then snug it up and your done. Good luck.

Need to reset manual governor on 10 hp briggs and stratton mod # 205412 type 0178-E1. took pan off the governor does not look bad or broke wasker under the governor looks good. I think someone moved the...

First loosen the pinch bolt and nut on the govener arm at the governor shaft. To set the governor make note of the governor arm to open the thottle wide open. Hold the governer arm to where the throttle is wide open then turn the governor shaft that is coming out of the engine block in the same direction until it stops then tighen the pinch bolt and nut on the governor arm to hold the arm in position on the governor shaft. Make sure when you start the engine you don't over rev it. Start it in low speed and move up slowly. You may need to reset the spring tension.
