Without knowing your finish it's really hard to recommend a cleaning agent. You can try mechanically removing some of the deposits, and perhaps use some CLR but very sparingly
This is not a normal occurence...maybe something the previous owner did or used the vacuum on?? A KIRBY will not normally leave any marks on Your carpet.. Lee in Australia
According to the product manual, press the 'ALARM ON/OFF' button on the back of the clock until the bell symbol and 'Zz' disappear from the display screen. These symbols are between the hour and minute digiits, above the colon ( : ).

You probably have a stuck relay or wires are touching. Pull the low
voltage wires off the vacuum, if it keeps running it's the relay. You
can try tapping with medium force next to where the low voltage wires
are attached to the unit using the handle end of a hammer. Even if this
works it's time to replace the circuit board. Check with a local vacuum cleaner repair center. You can disconnect the pipe and low voltage wires and it should just lift straight up. Take it to the repair center so you can save service call fee, because after all it's just a large canister vacuum.
Hello Miller_04, Regardless of how the filter is put in the vacuum cleaner should turn on. Really is no way to put the filter wrong in these. I have a white star myself.
You can contact Miele Vacuum support and they can further troubleshoot or recommend a vacuum shop in your area to send it to for repairs
