Question about FUJIFILM Cameras
Fujifilm finepix S1000
And if you do remove it, it is unlikely that you will have the equipment or the knowledge to fix the issue. Take it to a service centre.

This is just a suggestion, as I am not an expert.A couple of years ago I had a problem with my older, Fuji Finepix camera related to the computer downloads/programming and I found Fujifinepix web site. I sent them an email and they responded and did not charge anything. Could try that..

An update to the initial posting. As a warranty service provider, I can state that physical damage as a result of mis-use is NOT covered under warranty. Lens problems caused by dropping the camera are considered mis-use and are not covered. There is a good posibility that the lens assembly is just out of timing and can be rebuilt, but the cost to do this will not be paid by the manufacturer.
I don't want you to believe that this repair will be for free as it will not.

Go to set up then Frame and change to RENEW. It is probably on continuous. My camera did the same thing and this solved it.
Apparently even thought the card is empty if it is on continuous it will start the picture numbering where you left off last time.

I know this is an old question, but when I had this problem I came across several forums that had the "tape it" or "drill a hole and screw it shut" solutions. Some even gave step by step instructions on taking the camera apart and replacing the battery compartment with one from a camera bought for parts. I even contacted Fujifilm for an estimate. All were either expensive, ineffective or damaging. The solution I came up with was to go to the Camera Exchange and buy a Quick Release plate used for tripods. One that was long enough to cover the battery door. It screws into the tripod mount on the back and holds the door closed. No damage, no hole drilling and it works. Also only cost me $8. Win!
