Hitachi model 57SWX20B which has a dark screen

I have a Hitachi model 57SWX20B tv which has a "dark" screen that when watching a program that has a night scene, you can hardly see what's going on unless the scene is lighted, then it can be seen okay. I had it fixed years ago when it was under warranty, but I have no idea what they did that brightened up the picture, although I know they messed with the inside of the tv without having to replace any parts, and didn't correct it in the tv menu. Anyone have any ideas of what makes it do this? Thanks

Loss of brightness could need the mirror and lens cleaned and also the screen.if the tv is over 8 years old then the crts are getting weak.

No picture (black screen) using a HDMI to DVI cable from Time Warner's Explorer 8300HD cable box to Hitachi 57swx20b. Using RBG component cables, picture is fine.

MAKE SHURE cable is good and connections are good . also make shure your tv is set to dvi input. J.D.W.

Hitachi model 57SWX20B , Sound, but no picture

I had similar problem with my 57xwx20b TV as well. I'd unplug it from the wall for at leas 30-40s and plug it back in, the picture would return as normal. It will come back from time to time but the same procedure will reset the video board and the picture will return. I'd also check to make sure that the TV has the latest firmware from Hitachi as well. The FW for the ATSC tuner is upgradeable via the SD card and Hitachi website will give you the procedure. This fix all kind of problem with my TV from blank screen, green screen, flashing screen, pinkish screen because the old FW was built before the final standard. Apparently, it interferes with the video board and causes it to go amock. Good luck.

Unfortunately it sounds like your CRT's ( picture tubes ) are getting weak. You have 3- red, green and blue. It would not be in your best interest to repair it because of the cost of the crt's and if we can still buy them. A lot of analog parts such as those are very hard to locate and is getting worse by the day.
