We have a '95 GE Profile refrigerator, over/under model. Ice and frost form on the lower part of the freezer, just behind the door. Is this caused by a faulty door gasket or something else?

The ice wasn't there for a while but now it's back. Our house is air conditioned, not sure if humidity has anything to do with it.

SOURCE: GE Monogram refrigerator/freezer problem/ice dam in ice maker

I have had the same problem with ice forming. I found the problem is from the ice maker. The water fill tube delivers water to a plastic piece that acts like a funnel. The water goes through this plastic piece into the ice maker. Ice forms in the plastic funnel piece causing the water to overflow into the ice bin and freezer.

SOURCE: ice if forming along top gasket area and side of freezer where

If we have ice on the inside of the freezer it means air is being pulled into the box somewhere. The most likely place is the door seal, it sounds like you already checked it, but I would suggest that you look very close at the bottom and aides of the seal too, it could be leaking in air from there. Check the inside liner for cracks and seal them if you find any. Look at the corners of the cabinet to make sure there is not room for air to come in.

Air leaks will lead to frost, it is just hard sometimes to find where it is leaking in.

if you are talking about the motor in the freezer the ice build up could be causing the fan to beat against the ice... could be a defrost cycle problem,,,, if ice is building up on rear freezer wall you have a defrost cycle problem and the ice is forminf around fan causing fan blades to hit the ice (loud noise)

Ge profile 2004 open door and temp controls off shut door open they come back on light was staying on sometimes to bottom half of coils in freezor froze freezer working but temp in frig 50s on off fri

It is possible the refrigerator is low on Freon. You will need to remove the back panel inside the rear of freezer to examine the evaporator coils. If only a few rows have frost it will be time to replace the refrigerator. If the control panel in the freezer dispenser are coming on and off there may be a bad connection in the plug under the top left door hinge cover. Check that the plug is tight. Let me know what you see first behind the freezer wall, Thanks Sea Breeze

Hi yes the flap will cause the frost, you need to replace the solenoid that controls that flap, if this is a side by side, the solenoid is behind the dispenser controls on the freezer door, you take off the control board, and then remove the little mount behind that it has 4 screws and you will see solenoid on right side, it needs to be replaced.

Frost forms on the inside opening of the chute for the water/ice dispenser. Also frost on the exit chute from the ice cube tray. The frost is present a day or so after I clean it off.

The door flap which releases the ice , on the door , is not closing completely .Usually this is caused by a rusted plunger so both the solenoid and plunger will have to be replaced , These parts are located behind the dispenser board so be sure to remove the top freezer door hinge cover and unplug the plug there , to remove all power going to the door , before attempting this repair . I think the part number is WR62X10055 for the kit .
When it doesn't close , it lets warm air into the freezer and causes frost on the dispenser AND on the ice bin outlet . Also , using 10 glasses or more , of crushed ice a day can cause this .

Frost on back of freezer does not seem to be cool enough

Sounds like a defrost issue. The frost is caused because the defrost element heater is not working. Ice accumulates in the coils and blocks the air flow in to the freezer/refrigerator. GE refrigerators have an element heater behind that back panel under the evaporator coils. They are quite simple and inexpensive to replace. Use a hair dryer to defrost the coils to make the swap easier.
