Nortel Networks phone system says inactive feature when trying to go into voice mail

Call the phone system.

When you hear the voicemail greeting,
Press "* *" (thats 2 stars)

then just like sitting in front of the phone.

The short version of getting to your greeting is:
Feature 981 or open voicemail key
your password
"8"for admin
"2" for greetings
"1" for record
"1" for primary greeting
"'1" to record your greeting
at the tone record your greeting
"#" to end recording
after you record press 1 to listen 2 to retry or # to accept
press "rls" key when finished

to change the main greeting you need to get into admin programing F983 your also going to need a 7310 or 7324 or a T7316. You have to use the buttons under the LCD screen to navigate after getting into admin press AA
Press GRTG
Press GRTG again
and usually 1 is set for day
and 2 is set for night
press 1 then ok
Press REC.

Reset the voice-mail password.

Do so by first pressing

Function 985 (to view the mailbox number the phone is using)
Function 983
Log: 1020000 (or 120000, 10020000 1st is for 2 digit extensions 2nd is for 4 digit extensions)
Left Button (MBOX)
Right Button (CHG)
Enter Extension
Left Button (RESET)

This should reset the password to 0000, the steps maybe a little bit off depending on the software version installed on the phone system.
