Odd, could be one of the safety switches where the nozzle or emptor connects. How long has it been since the machine got serviced? The carbon brushes on the motor could be shot.

SOURCE: bad fan

There might be latex sealant around the perimeter of the fan casing. This was the case with my G3. The latex sealant prevents dust from blowing out of the fan "chamber" while it's running and under positive pressure. And as reddevil16 said, the spindle is a left-hand thread. When you reinstall, it doesn't have to be super tight, just snug. It will tighten right up as soon as you turn it on.

I don't know how to change the brush. HELP Kirby Legend II vacuums

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. To change the Kirby brushroll is to dial the belt off of the fan pulley and unlock the head to the bell housing, the head will come off. Then you turn the head over and remove the bottom plate by 2 levers the brushroll will be attached. Remove the brushroll and replace it with the new one with the screw head facing down to the carpet. Replace the bottom plate and install a new belt. The belt install on a Kirby is to raise the height adjustment to the highest level and then dial the belt off counter clockwise so it is loose and not on the fan pulley, release the top lever on the bell housing, then remove the bottom plate and unhook the brushroll on one side, slide the old belt off and then slide the new one on, replace the brushroll with the screws facing the carpet and re-hook the bottom plate on the Kirby. Then take the bell housing and hook that back on to the Kirby and lock it down. Then dial the belt on clockwise all the way and the belt should be on the fan pulley. The belt should be ready to go, plug in your Kirby and then do the step down on the vacuum height adjustment until the tone changes, then try to see id it picks up, if not go one more height adjustment and that should be the correct setting.

SOURCE: no power getting through

Hi
The motor spindle should NOT rotate when there is nothing attached to the front. Its very dangerous. There are two square switches on the front of the machine which engage depending on wether its the main head or hose thats attached. Looks like on of them is sticking

Where does the power light clip on to on the kirby legend 2 1984

The light clips into the top and mid point of that black on off switch.
It is the biggest pain to see those 2 entry terminals on the back of that switch and the only way is to cut those white tie wraps that go around the light wires to the pot metal frame to get just the extra amount you will need.

A good light source and a sharp pair of needle nose pliers will be needed to push the 2 light plugs into that main black switch.

I used to dread that when replacing those entire switches until getting used to it.

Another note that if you get the motor wires reversed when plugging them into that switch......it reverses the motor and will blow instead of suck.

Hope this helps!

Hello, Help please, Using my vacuum, turned it off briefly, then went to turn it back on and it would not .I checked plugs which were both fine. Motor is strong, impeller is fine. The light comes on near the button to turn it on however it's not doing anything. Switch maybe? Just a guess. Thanks for your help! Alice
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. It can be only one of 2 things, either it could be the safety switch or the foot switch and they would have to be replaced. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Legend 11 Kirby, sometimes will not turn on

Could have a problem with the motor, may need carbon brushes, or other motor related parts. If the light turns on and off with the switch, then the switch is probably ok. There is a speed switch inside the motor casing that could be bad.
