My guess is the self timer was accidently turned on

Description

Using the Self-timer on the EOS REBEL T3i.

Solution

The self-timer is useful when you want to photograph yourself or prevent camera shake caused when the shutter is released.
1. Set the power switch to <ON>.
2. Press < > button.
  • You can check the self-timer operation with the self-timer lamp, beeper, and countdown display (in seconds) on the LCD monitor.
  • Two seconds before the picture is taken, the self-timer lamp will stay on and the beeper will sound faster.
Attention:
With [ ], the interval between the multiple shots may be prolonged depending on the shooting functions settings such as the image-recording quality or flash.
NOTE:
  • After taking self-timer shots, you should check the image for proper focus and exposure.
  • If you will not look through the viewfinder when you press the shutter button, attach the eyepiece cover. If stray light enters the viewfinder when the picture is taken, it may throw off the exposure.
  • When using the self-timer to photograph only yourself, use focus lock on an object at about the same distance as where you will stand.
  • To cancel the self-timer after it starts, press the < > button.

How do i connect the camera so i get live feed to my laptop. There are only USB inputs on the laptop.

You can't do this. You should attach the camera to the telescope, use the telescope focus wheels to focus after switching on Live View on the camera. You can also use the magnification 5x, 10x function.

Eos 70d 18-135 stm lens focus ring does not turn when focusing?

It may be that the focus ring is only engaged when the lens is switched to manual focus.

I try to focus and it tells me this function is not selectable in the current shooting mode

Yes there are two zones of selection on the mode dial. one is basic zone (in which you have potrait, landscape, closeup, sports, night portrait & flash off) these are fully automatic modes and the camera does every thing for you you cannot change the focus. you can zoom out and zoom in and when u see in the view finder the picture is blur. then press the shutter button halfway the camera automatically zooms in or out for the correct focal lenght. only in creative zone you can do it. like programe ae , shutter priority , aperture priority , manual exposure. Hope this solves your problem. Prashanth.

New out of the box Cannon 550 with a 18-55mm 3.5 - 5.6 lens and I can only focus in the wide angle shot. The zoom to 55mm is out of focus even when set to AF and an automatic setting. Am I doing...

In automatic mode and automatic focus - The camera should focus onto the subject given that there's enough contrast between your subject and the background. If it not focusing at all even in broad day light conditions - You lens is faulty.
Also - Do you or your friend have another lens to test if the camera is faulty?
