Where did you buy this unit from? Go back there and ask if they have filters for yours. Otherwise look in the Yellow Pages for vacume cleaner repair shops. Sometimes they have all kinds of filters for all kinds of vacumes. You can try places like Wal Mart. What you want to look for are filters that will work with your unit. The foam filter you refer to is called a pre-filter. It traps the bigger particles so they won't damage your paper filter or clog it up especially if it's wet stuff you're picking up. You can remove that foam filter and gently wash it out in the sink with a mild dishwashing liquid and warm water. And even sometimes if you have time you can wash a paper filter out by hosing it out from the inside, with just a gently rinsing on the outside. Don't use any solvents on it just soap and water. And don't use high pressure either, as it will destroy the paper. I have cleaned my paper filters several times before I finally had to replace them. You can also look at places like Lowe's. They carry shop vacs and a whole assortment of attachments as well.

Wet/dry shop vac: floating part inside filter cage. Open end up or down? Was wedged on its side and I know that's not correct, but I don't know how it's supposed to be positioned. As you can see, I've...

it will self orient to the down position, it is used to shut down vacuum when tank is full. The float rises with the water level until the discharge air sucks it to top and seal the air offs, otherwise water would enter motor and destroy machine.

Where can I find a filter for genie sv300q?

I have the Genie 3000 which is a 20 gal. wet/dry vac with a 3.0 HP motor. I had bought at Home Depot some 20+ years ago. I bought a replacement filter at HD made by someone other than Genie and claiming to fit my model...but it did not fit...too loose to stay in place. I did track down some hypo filters that might fit...but at $28+ for the filter I decided it was time to get a new model with better and cheaper and available filters. I bought a Ridgid WD1451 14 gal with 6.0 HP. It is so much nicer and quieter. HD regularly carries the WD1450 for $99 or so. The WD1451 is the same model but also had the car vac hose and attachments (a $40 set) included for free. That was a limited offer probably no longer available. Get you a new one and enjoy it...I did...and I still have the Genie...but I think I'll toss it because it is too big, too loud, and I love this new Ridgid.

My genie 10 gallon wet dry vac is hardly picking up any water. what is wrong?

Check the filter in the vacuum to see if it is plugged. Try removing the hose to see if there is better vacuum at the machine. Is there a hepa filter in the exhaust that might be plugged. Hope this helps!

Genie 400PC 16 gal shop vac but can't find filters

If you need paper filters, you can easily use a bag filter cut in half, and have less dust clouds than the original filter. Remember to use the lock ring. Generic ShopVac mini's have the same filter in foam.

Can't remove the top to get to the motor

2 of the 4 fasteners on my Genie were TORX head screws with the little round 'blocking post' in the opening.
I acquired a set of TORX drivers which have a hollow center to accomodate these particular fasteners. (Maybe the tools came from Harbour Freight)
The REAL problem is that a new motor seems to cost 2 or 3 times the price of a new wet/dry vac.
Good luck
