My laptop doesnt turn on at all or do anything - help

I have a HP pavilion notebook dz8000 bout yr and a half old and few days ago i was using it and something banged and smoke came out of the charger so i took the charger out and it still ran on the battery so i thought it was just the charger, i bought a new charger and now when i press the power button nothing happens at all. i can plug the mains in and it shows there is power running to it but nothing when i press the power button. Any ideas what could be wrong with it and how i can fix it? could it be somethin to do with the battery or the motherboard? or what
cheers
dan

Sounds like the 19V supply shorted to the Data circuit killing the Supply line. Its been seen here before and if it popped/smoked you will be able to see the components that failed. Also be sure HP sold you a 180 Watt power brick.. The 120 W is not enough for these monsters. Good luck!

Well, smoke is never a good sign.
Tell me, the 'something banged' thing, could that have been the laptop was being moved and the power cord was jerked at the connection to the laptop?
These are very prone to have problems with the ac jack coming loose from the motherboard (I have 3 in the shop right now with the same problem)
If you can, check and see if it's getting juice to the battery when plugged in using a multimeter.
Good luck

Won't turn on

Susan,
Dealing with overseas tech support people can be frustrating. If the laptop is only a few days old, you really need to contact them first.

Im sure its still covered under warranty, so start there first.
If it wont boot, it could be a number of things.
If you get no where with them, please post back and someone here will try to help.

Newer HP Pavilion dv6000 turned off while in use and wont turn on

1.Start your computer and see if your hear your fan noise, and cannot see anything on screen then there is problem with your power supply.

2.If you cannot hear your fan noise, and do not see anything on screen, then there is problem with your motherboard

3.if you hear fan noise and can see something on screen, then it is the issue with your hard disk (very less cases)

Mostly it would be the 2nd case that you will have to get your motherboard replaced

Hp dv1000 media controls

Hey Gigantegenov!

Seems like the program that controls your special keys (volume control) causes your computer to freeze!

I would recommend reinstalling the drivers/application for it. Try this download and let me know what happened: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-31502-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=228&product=435618

My laptop wont turn on at all,is different to the other problems on here.help

Try removing the battery (instructions in your manual). Now run the computer with just the new charger. Does this work? Try holding down the power button for 10-20 seconds.
