There is some frost build up in the freezer of my Kenmore side by side. Water is leaking on the floor just under the door of the refrigerator but I can't figure out where it is coming from because there is no water on the floor of the freezer. We bought the refrigerator about 1990.

The water is from the melted frost of the defrost cycle. The drain at the bottom of the back wall of the freezer is blocked so instead of the water draining into the pan where it will evaperate,it's pooling on the freezer floor and freezing, in many case when the floor indent is full the water will leak onto the floor.By pulling the refrigerator out from the wall, there will be a tube behind the service panel on the right side when looking at it from the rear, that tube can be removed and cleared, then clear the nozzle it connects to inside the freezer.
Hello, I dont know if you have a side by side or the freezer is on top,but thats a fairly common thing and the following is what i already wrote before what to check when it leaks like your experiencing.
SIDE BY SIDE
The water is from the melted frost of the defrost cycle. The drain at the bottom of the back wall of the freezer is blocked so instead of the water draining into the pan where it will evaperate,it's pooling on the freezer floor and freezing, in many case when the floor indent is full the water will leak onto the floor.By pulling the refrigerator out from the wall, there will be a tube behind the service panel on the right side when looking at it from the rear, that tube can be removed and cleared, then clear the nozzle it connects to inside the freezer. FREEZER ON TOP That water is from the melting frost of the automatic defrost cycle. Their is drain in the freezer behind the back wall under the evaperator coil that is blocked, so instead of defrost water draining it's pooling in the freezer or in some case espically on models with the freezer on the top,the water is leaking from the freezer vents into the fresh food compartment. The way to clear the drain is remove back plate and remove all ice build up and GENTLY make a small hole in drain through then totally flush w/warm water. The exact location of drain is under the coil behind back freezer plate in the center

1. A door open partially will cause a frost build-up then thaw and run down to the floor. Check all doors for proper closure and educate other users.
2. An issue with an unhappy animal is quite common
3. Door switch intermittently causing a light to stay on ora fan to not run
4 Ice build up around ice door chute .
5. Water dripping into ice tray and overflowing. Replace water valve.
the door may be sagging or the door gasket could be torn or loose from the door. whats happening is the moisturew in the air is forming ice build up. check and make sure the door and gasket are completely closed.
if the door was not closed correctly for a while then a lot of condensation will be accumulated on the freezer coils.
then when going into defrost it melts this ice/frost and overflows the pan or container under the machine which relies on evaporation to dispel of the water.
empty the pan under the refrigerator if you can, then give it another day, it will get back to normal.
if you already checked this and think
it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out. Mike
Does this happen when unit is in a defrost?? If so, sounds like the drain line is clogged. The hose and pan are located under the unit. You can access this by removing the cardboard back cover.Find the drain line tube.I'm sure the drain opening at the evaporater is iced over. You will have to unplug the unit and keep the doors open to defrost.(Removing product in unit will decrease defrost time.) Maybe an hour to an hour and a half.Could be longer!! Try using a wet/dry vac to clear.
