Just replaced the HDD in my Toshiba Satellite M55-S329 from a 100GB to a 320GB after the old HDD failed. Now after replacing the HDD, it does recognize the hDD but I get the error message "pxe-e61 media test failure check cable". I have tried options like changing the BIOS but It still will not work or for that matter run the recovery disc..just the error message everytime. Is it possible that the HDD is too large in GB's to make work properly?? If not, what could possible be the problem?? Help?? Thank you

You have to change to boot order in the bios settings, it is currently trying to boot from a network drive, it needs to be set to the HDD you just installed.

Boot order should be set to boot from CD/DVD drive first, then HDD second

Access bios by pressing F1 or ESC at power up.

Do you have the XP/Vista install disc in the CD/DVD drive, if not the system will then try HDD, if no OS present it will then go to network boot resulting in your exact error code.

Disable the network boot option. open CD/DVD drive wipe any dust from the laser using a cotton bud or something similar, insert disc and retry. Do you still get same error?

My harddrive has failed and I wanted to know if it's diffiocult to take it out and put in a new one. Also would I be able to go from 250gb hdd to a 320gb hdd? My laptop is the Toshiba Satellite L355D-S7825

Dear derrick_j849:
It shouldn't be difficult to replace your Hard Drive on this laptop the access panels are on the bottom and may even be marked for you. Upgrading to a faster (7200 rpm) and bigger hard drive isn't an issue either. Good Luck with the upgrade and don't forget to give the thumbs up if this helps. Myabe these might help:

You definitely need to bring your laptop to the Toshiba shop near you. There they can facilitate the replacement of your laptop's body (casing). It is a critical task to do and I think a Toshiba authorized shop can help you with this. Thanks.
