SOURCE: stitches

Usually a walking foot is for straight forward stitching only.It keeps the many layers from shifting for you. The "hand-look" quilting takes a couple stitches forward then one back. If you look close, you will see about every other stitch is thicker and stands out more.

SOURCE: Elna walking foot

If your SU is an Air Electronic model i.e. 80's model, Elna didn't make a walking foot to fit. However, if you've got a walking foot that is the same height from sole plate to the screw fitting as a standard Elna foot then you could give it a try. The walking foot connects to the presser bar with a screw but the needle bar also needs to hook into a secondary lever on the side of the walking foot to make the foot actually move. Probably sounds very confusing . Check the movement of the foot manually by hand turning the fly wheel to see how it works before you actually use with the motor to minimise any problems if the foot doesn't fit.

Also you'll probably only be able to do straight stitch with this foot due to the clearance around the needle plate.

SOURCE: I purchased an Elna 7000

I'm assuming that this is a generic style walking foot for low shank machines and it will fit your Elna?
To attach it, you will see a long lever arm at the front of the foot and the little curved bracket at the back of the foot.

Remove your usual foot and the clip on foot holder by undoing the thumb screw. Now fit the walking foot on instead by putting the lever arm around the needle bar and the curved bracket around the pressure bar and then putting the thumb screw back into place and screw up tight to hold the foot in place. Now lower the pressure foot and manually wind your machine forward a few stitches. As the needle bar goes up and down, it should move the long lever arm too which works the walking foot teeth gripping the top layer of fabric with each stitch.

Trust this helps.

SOURCE: What make of walking foot

You need a low shank style walking foot. Even back in the 80's when your SU air electronic was new, the walking foot sold by Elna was an after market one, and not made by Tavaro. Same with the ruffler attachment, it was after market and actually fitted quite a few makes of machine.

I would just ask the dealer/shop if they will refund your money if you find it doesn't work just in case.

There is a low shank one on sewingpartsonline.com
http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/walking-foot-low-shank-p60444.aspx and they list the SU as compatible with it.

Take off the foot holder on your mache, and you need to fit the little open ended arm over the needle bar and the foot bracket onto the foot with your machine's regular thumb screw. The up and down movement of the needle bar operates the walking foot.

I have an Elna SP sewing machine and am looking for a walking even feed foot to quilt with. I was given the following part number Swiss 395052-00-000000. Is this correct?

You need a generic low shank walking foot - the swiss part numbers won't help as there's nothing coming from that factory now, it closed in the 90's sadly. And Swiss Tavaro never made a walking foot, dealers just sold generic ones that would fit. On some models you will need to take the bobbin extractor out of the way so the back of the foot will have room behind. sewingpartsonline dot com may sell one.

I am trying to do free motion quilting on my Elna Lotus machine. Can't find a way to drop the feed dogs, but that isn't the real problem. When I put the free motion foot on the machine won't run

If this is a Swiss made original Elna Lotus, ie Tavaro SA on the manufacturer's plate on right hand side of the machine, then there is no "feed dog lowering" function. Elna supplied these with a little rectangular plate which clipped into place over the feed dogs. There is a open toe darning foot which I would suggest you use for free motion quilting and you also need to lower the presser foot still, to ensure top thread is under tension.

I have a quilting foor for my Elna Lotus Sp but don't know how to attach it can you please help

If you mean a walking foot that has feed teeth on the top and feeds from both top and bottom.....the arm of the foot needs to be above the needle clamp to lift the top feed as the needle rises out of the fabric.
