The steering wheel on my toro lawn tractor is loose - teeth won't engage. It doesn't look like the teeth are broken - can I loosen the plate on the tractor that is attached to the wheels and adjust to fit into the cog on the steering wheel column

No; you'll need a new steering shaft and a steric gear.( i just did this on mine) this will be your best result.as they wear @ the same time both need to be replaced.hope this helps

Why does steering slip turning left?

broken teeth on the steering gear (attached to the steering rod) or the steering plate (the one that turns the wheels) follow the steering rod from the steering wheel down to the frame, if it goes THRU the frame look underneath the lawnmower and youll see which one is messed up, just replace the one that has the broken/worn down teeth, hope this helps

Either The drive belt for the blades has come off, or it has broken.

Broken gear at the end of the steering linkage, or broken teeth, also check to see if the stationary gear mounted to the tractor itself isn't broken off or worn out.

When I engage the blades nothing happens. Any ideas?

I have a YTH 150 with a similar problem. The mower has an electrically powered clutch which is activated when you engage the blade button. If the drive belt has no tension on it, engaging the clutch doesn't do anything because the drive wheel will just spin but the blades won't. Look for broken tension springs on the mower deck and replace.

I have a Toro personal pace mower. Model 20017 The propulsion system isn't working. If I lift the mower, the wheels will spin, but back on the ground it won't propell the mower. I just put a new...

im assuming you dont here any grinding, start by tightening the cable ( loosen the cable mounting bolt slide the cable towards the engine, make sure you leave some play in the cable so its doesnt engage constantly and re-tighten ) this is most likely your issue however if you re-test and get grinding you either need new drive gears and wheels, new transmission or possibly both, you said it does something just not powerfully this pretty much rules out your belt, highly doubtful its that worn out and if it came off of a pulley it would do literally nothing, however if you tighten it and the drive is almost normal but still weak you do have a worn drive belt

Front drive wheels won't engage

Is it possible that the belt has either broken or come off the pulleys? Next step would be to remove the cover and see if there is something preventing engagement or if you see any broken parts. May even be as simple as lubricating the cable/levers.
