Question about JVC AV-56WP74 56" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

JVC AV-56WP74 closes up and flickers when input is trying to come through

I have the model listed above, and the screen is closing up about half way and flickers/jumps and turns all green. There is no signal getting through, neither audio nor video on any of the channels/inputs selected. I have seen ONE other post about this EVER and it was made by another person on this site. They never got back to my message of how they fixed the problem, or whether or not they fixed it at all. I was wondering if someone can tell me specifically what may be wrong? I thought maybe it was the MI COM DIST PWB because that seems to be where all of the signals converge. But that is a $400-500 board to replace myself. Any help would be great, and if there is an estimated cost of fixing this, please let me know, so I can start saving. I really like this tv, and would like if I could fix it for a reasonable price. Thanks!

Yeah, I've already pulled out all the boards (they are on a plastic mounted tray that slides out) and I didn't see anything unusual. What should I be looking for if there was coolant leaking? Also, I'm not purely positive that the signals converge on that board (part number SSB0D069A-M2) but I'm pretty sure, based on the schematics/diagrams in the service manual.

First possibility is a CRT coolant leak onto the signal PCB.
Examine from front and back with good light = even a few drops
of conductive coolant can cause various unusual symptoms....
Your symptoms are multiple and normally un-related, unless,
as you mentioned, all the signals converge......................T.

Look for any wet to touch spot...if not, then perhaps you have a

power supply issue that affects multiple circuits....T.

Make sure there is enough heat sink compond between the IC's and the heat sink itself. These IC's do usually run fairly warm to hot but that heat should be disapated onto the heat sink.

SOURCE: convergence problem

Did you lock the adjustment into the TV's memory? This step is the most often missed. Please follow the directions on the Users manual or on the service manual on how to set your memory to hold the configuration.

Find the menu item on setting the convergence adjustment into memory (the menu should have an informational screen on this topic)

I hope this helps

Thank you,

SOURCE: JVC AV-56WP74 56in red shadow

hello, the first thing i am going to ask you is do you have the jvc original remote, because sometimes universal remotes don't work a 100%. now the second one is if you have any repairs skills, because if you do, just replace the convergence stks, i am almost sure that this tv you don't have to open it from the back, i believe they are right in the front just remove the front panel and you will see them ,well before you replace them check for loose connections, if not replace the convergence ics stks (stk392-110) and also replace any burned resistors. good luck

JVC AV-56WP74 Problem

Yes, one of your convergence IC's have gone bad. They are located on the convergence board inside the tv and there are two of them. They are inexpensive and easy to replace if you know how to solder. Watch out for the JVC booby trap sensor on the dvi input card. Don't run the tv with the back panel off unless you have disconnected the DVI card from the main board. I would even cover the little sensor with black electrical tape. Then it is safe to work on the tv when it's open and on. Well safe for those who know what they are doing.
