SOURCE: Ionic Breeze GP Sharper Image

Sharper Image ionizers are no longer being serviced. What got them into trouble in the first place was the fact that they were not cleaning the air and that the air they were filtering was hazardous some peoples health. This was based on data by Consumer Reports as well as the EPA. They went to court on it and they lost.

Sharper Image was offering a rebate to people who had purchased ionizers.

The Consumer Products Safety Commission is going to be making a decision on ionizers by the end of the year. It could be that they will no longer be sold in the US next year since they are ineffective and can cause health problems.

This is an industry that should have been regulated years ago just by EPA data alone. The idea that charging the air around you gets rid of stuff is a joke. In the copier industry that I work in we are told that it is bad since copiers create ozones in the same way.

The room smells after vacuuming, even after changing the bag. What can I do to stop the smell.

There may be a build up of dust in the machine. Turn it over and remove the screws that hold the beater bar cover and see if there is any white like powder caked on the inlet area.

How can I make my own venta Airwasher Water Treatment?

I use white vinegar and hot water. I soak the disk for a few hours. It's amazing. My venta is 10 years old. I also use different scented oils in mine to fragrance the room. I use it daily. I got a new venta but like the older model better. It is my sleeping machine it provides a white noise that I sleep very well to. The new one is too quiet and seems more fragile.

Fresh air is making a popping sound

Carefully examine the plate. If there are black burnt spots next to the wire, it needs to be replaced. Otherwise, cleaning it will stop the popping sound.

Crackles even after blades are cleaned

To stop the crackling sound, you need to remove all of the dust particles from the wire in the back. Sometimes when the unit is extremely dirty you can see sparks emanating from the wire, this is what causes the crackling sound. The unit has a built in cleaner you can lift up and down to perform this task, located on the top, but this doesn't work extremely well.

I usually take a can of compressed air and blow as much of the dust I can off the wire and all surrounding internal areas as I can. To do this, approach the unit from the front, and turn the blade door slightly so the wire can be seen. This along with a thorough cleaning of the blades should eliminate the crackling noise. Of course, make sure the device is unplugged before performing any cleaning.

How do I know when it is time to service my Living Air 880?

This is one of the first models manufactured by Alpine, and is at least 15 years old. It's pretty basic, however, and if it's maintained monthly or bi-monthly, it probably will just keep on going and going...like another little advertising icon says!
The two most important parts are the white plates with the screens attached, and the fan. If the machine is making strange squeeking or grinding noises, the fan needs oiling. Even if no noise is audible, the fan still needs oiling occasionally, like any fan in any appliance.

1) Unplug the machine.
Remove the front grid, gently but firmly pull off the fan blades, and

Ionic Breeze GP S1830 - makes a sizzeling noise

Funny you should post this when you did as I just finished reassembling my S1730.
Mine was making very loud noise, arcing violently, smoking slightly and would give a good shock when you touched the plastic covers(yes dirty plastic will conduct electric current).

1. Unplug the unit
2. Take the plastic covers off, front has four screws and back has snap at bottom, both slide up when loose.
3. Wash the plastic covers
4. take the light out and clean it with windex
5. Vacuum the inside, be careful of the two corona wires
6. Find the bead on each corona wire and while turning them slight so the edges scrapes the wire, move them back and forth to scrap the white power off the wires
7. scrape the cone shape plastic that the corona wires runs into, this build up is the primary culprit of the arcing which is the noise you hear. be careful of the corona wires again. I used an exacto knife and gently scraped it, sandpaper has been suggested elsewhere, once done scrapping, wipe down to clean any residue. The top cones are only part accessible, after cleaning mine the noise still persisted but acceptably lower than before. I think if you completely take apart the unit you can clean this cones better.
8. Reassembly is the same is opposite of disassembling.

Hopes this helps you.

My Venta Airwasher LW44 motor won't start

Test the motor to see if it works. Make sure the motor is removed from the rest of the unit. To find out how to remove the unit please hit the "Go Back button and select the "How to remove the motor button"...
  1. Plug the unit in to a working outlet.
  2. Push the #1 speed button on top of the motor.
  3. You now need to engage the saftey switch to start the motor.
  4. Protruding from the motor are two plastic about 3-4 inch guiding arms.
  5. Look inside the end of both of these two guiding arms. One of the arms are hollow and the other one has a white safety switch in the arm.
  6. Use a pencil or small item to push in on the safety switch.
  7. If the fan sarts to rotate the motor is still working.
  8. If the fan does not rotate then the life of the motor has probably ended and a new motor is needed. ( insert motor part link)

Not running quietly

"A blinking light indicates when the blades should be wiped clean with a damp cloth." I actually had a "handyman" contract last year to visit an elderly gentleman once a month and clean all 9 of his Ionic Breeze GP air purifiers. Before I did that for him, they would make hissing noises and he really didn't like that. Here's how to clean the operative compnents of these machines: First, unplug the machine and place on a work surface, such as a table or kitchen counter. Second, remove the metal blade insert from the top by gripping the release tab and lifting it up and out. Also remove the front and back grilles by pressing on the plastic tab at the bottom and lifting up on them. Third, use a damp rag or paper towel to wipe the three metal blades clean. Do not immerse this assembly in water, because it has to be completely dry when re-installing it in the machine. Fourth, use a small piece of damp paper towel to VERY GENTLY wipe clean the two thin wires inside the unit. These are located behind the two rubbery flat blades just inside the unit and can be accessed from the front side. You won't damage these rubbery flat blades by pushing your hand gently between them, but be VERY CAREFUL when wiping the wires clean. (This step is important, as the wires must be clean.) Fifth, using another bit of damp paper towel, carefully clean the wire attached to the inside of the front grille. Dry this off with a dry bit of paper towel, then clean any accumulated dirt off the front & back grilles. Check the metal contact near the bottom of the front grille (attached to the wire) to verify that it's clean and will make good electrical contact. Sixth, pick the unit up and turn it upside-down & right-side up about 6 to 8 times. The two wires inside have plastic beads on them that slide up and down the wires. This brushes any bits of leftover dust or lint off of the wires. (Again, these wires must be VERY clean.) Seventh, replace the front and back plastic grilles by placing them in their slots and sliding them down to snap into place. Verify that the assembly with the three metal blades is COMPLETELY dry, using a hair dryer if necessary to dry off damp areas, then slide it back into place from the top of the machine. Now the cleaning process is done, so plug the unit in and turn it on to test operation. If it makes ANY noise, then some component is not completely cleaned off, or still has a presence of moisture, which must be completely dried off before the machine is ready for operation. Hope this helps! ;)
