Shallow well pumps are normally centrifugal pumps and have a limited lift head at which they can pull water unless they are jet pumps which get around an extra 6 to 8 feet in lift height but a a reduced pressure
mono block pumps are positive displacement pumps when there is a special screw operating in a rubber block ( mono block) and can lift higher and at a better pressure
normally mono pumps are immersion pumps driven by long drive shafts from a motor at the well head
centrifugal pumps are normally restricted to fluids with a very low viscosity rating such as water , fuel where as mono pumps can have various rubber blocks fitted to accommodate heavier materials such as explosive mixture,
thick fluids such as molasses or liquid materials with solid content such as sand in the mix
