Hi the zoom function works well when taking a photo but while taking a film the optical zoom key doesn't function.I have to zoom first and then start shooting.Could anyone help please? Thanks in advance.
Characteristic of the beast!
It is a photo camera not a movie camera my kodak z740 is the same way. With the resolution they get if they had this capability they would put the video cameras to the back of the bus

I would check and confirm that you are zooming using the optical zoom. It sounds like you may be zooming using the digital zoom, which would have this effect.
The DSCW80 Camera is supplied with the BC-CSGB Battery Charger which can be used to charge the battery of the Camera by inserting it to the charger.
You may also use the ACLS5K AC Adapter (not supplied) for charging the battery by using the Multi-connector cable of the Camera.
there is no optical zoom at all, while in VGA mode, you have up 3.2x digital zoom.....Press the zoom button to choose the desired zoom position and shoot your photo.....u cant zoom while filming video
The resolution of the photo you take determines how grain shows up as you zoom into the Photo, So taking a 10 megapixel photo on optical zoom or no zoom will give you a sharper picture than when you use both the optical and digital zoom to grab your picture. The digital zoom uses the centre of your CCD picture imager rather than the whole CCD so with less elements to your picture when you take it gives you blockiness sooner when you zoom in on the image. I am guessing your friend has digital Zoom turned off in settings to prevent the Graining showing upon magnification. Good light and a steady camera will give you the best results.
Is this camera only have a digital zoom? If it has an optical zoom as well, you could have a setting that is set to ignore digital zoom and because your lighting conditions, zooming in and out is not currently possible because the aperture can not be opened enough to light you take a picture without being blurry. The auto focus would be taking priority in stopping you from taking a picture. Just a hunch.
Yes. This camera has 3x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom. However digital zoom cannot be used in 2880 x 2160 size. Optical zoom: It is approximately 5.6 - 16.8 mm. (equivalent to 38 - 108 mm on 35mm film camera)
Digital zoom: It extends to 4x from telephoto end (108mm) of optical zoom.
