Checking router log for Motorola surfboard sb5100e

Hi there, I'm renting my house this summer and am including free internet. Is there a way to check what my lodgers have been up to my internet, just in case they've been accessing anything extreme? I have a Motorola surfboard sb5100e wireless router. I believe some models have this capability but not all. Many thanks!

You will not be able to check what they are accessing, and I would question the validity and legality of this as they have a right to their privacy. If you are concerned that they are accessing inappropriate material (e.g. pirate sites) and it may cause you to get into trouble, then you do not have to worry. Your ISP will have a record of their IP address plus the sites they visit, although they may not keep the information for long (it varies by ISP) and if there was ever a question of who accessed the sites, you can easily show that they were in the house when the inappropriate sites were accessed.

SOURCE: losing connection

I assume this is a cable modem? You need to call your cable company and have a trouble ticket created. I worked for the cable company installing cable for quite a while and I bet my paycheck the signal getting to the modem are below specs and that's why the modem gets dropping the internet connection.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: no internet connection by using the ethernet cable

Unplug the power to the modem and the USB cable. Plug in Ethernet cable in computer and plug in the modem. Wait for WAN side of the modem to connect and stabilize. If your PC is already on, you should see the network connection appear in the task bar (if it's configured to show up). Open a command prompt. Type 'ping 192.168.1.1' and press Enter. You should get 4 ping responses from the modem which indicates that you LAN connection to the modem is functional.

Let me know if this doesn't work and I'll guide you through other methods to get it working.

You need to disable the UPnP function on the Belkin router. Log into the router(192.168.2.1), and look under System Settings. If you haven't changed the password on the router, the default password is blank, i.e., no password.

Hi, follow the steps below to configure MR814 with your motorola surfboard:

CONNECTIONS:

1. Connect a Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port of the router (isolated port).
2. Connect the computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports. Please make sure that there is no direct connection between the modem and the computer (either using Ethernet cable or USB cable).
3. Power off the modem and the router after making the connections.
4. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.
RECONFIGURE:
1. Open the browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari).
2. Access the router, usually with http://192.168.0.1
3. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the Username and Password are case sensitive).
4. Click on 'Basic settings' from the left menu and select 'Use Computers MAC Address' from 'router MAC Address' section.
5. Click Apply.
6. Once it updates the settings then power off the modem and the router. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

Can i use a Bright House Surfboard Router for Verizon FIOS Internet?

If you can reset all the parameters, however if you know all the info I would suggest that you use something like a Belkin. You need the IP "name" for you, the connection password, and you really need to know what you are doing.
The only ISP that cannot easily be used with another modem is Sky as they deliberately use a different encoding. Yet again another reason NOT to use sky, it is difficult to monitor, and to use other equipment.

I want internet on the other side of house

In order for you to accomplish that goal what you need to buy is a wireless router that can be located on the other side of your house so computers there can have internet access wired or wirelessly connected to the router. You can get a wireless router from Linksys, Netgear , Dlink or Belkin.

Motorola

I have looked at this modem and to perform a reset simply unplug the power supply for 30-45 seconds then plug back in. There is a 24 hour Modem Tech Support number which is free. The number is 1-877-466-8646
