Acer Aspire 4520 doesn't read SDHC cards

Can't read an SDHC card via the card reader on the laptop or via an external card reader. Is there a simple solution to fix this such as an updated driver download or do I need to purchase a new card reader?

No, there is a simple fix. However, it involves flashing the BIOS on the laptop.

Don't worry, there's not much chance of it going wrong as long as you follow their steps of flashing the BIOS (Incidentally, it's stored on most laptop hard drives).

The reader will accept a larger chip if the updated BIOS on the laptop manufacturer's website is written to do it. Contact the manufacturer via email first just to make sure.

Won t recognize sd card

It seems that the card reader if the computer is not detecting the card. Make sure that the memory card you use is supported.
The multi-in-one card reader on the Aspire One can read and write to Secure Digital card (SD), Secure Digital High Capacity card (SDHC), MultiMediaCard (MMC), Memory Stick (MS), Memory Stick PRO (MS PRO), and xD-Picture Card (xD). Specific models of the Aspire One are also equipped with an SD Expansion slot that can read and write to Secure Digital (SD) and Secure Digital High Capacity card (SDHC) cards.
The multi-in-one card reader on the Aspire One can read and write to miniSD, microSD, Memory Stick Duo,and Memory Stick PRO Duo cards but require the use an adapter. Acer does not provide or support any memory card adapters.
You can try removing the card reader using the device manager and the reinstall it and check the operation. You may also try using the card is different computer and check. Also try using another card in the computer with the issue and check. If the issue is not resolved please revert back with the model number.

My Acer 3692WLMi does not read my Fuji 8 gig SDHC card but it will read my Panasonic 2 gig SD card. Can someone give me an answer/solution. Thanks C

While I'm not directly familiar with this Acer model, it looks to be an older laptop. It's almost certain that it was built prior to the SDHC cards being created - a lot of older memory card readers are not able to read the High Capacity (HC) flash cards. I actually own a couple of devices that also would not read the 8GB card.

To test, I would recommend finding a newer USB SD card reader that you could either borrow or purchase (they're usually not too expensive) to see if that reader could get the information from the SDHC card.

If that works, the problem would be that your flash card reader does not support the higher volume cards. This is the most likely possibility.

If it doesn't work, there may be an actual problem with the SDHC card itself.

Hope this is helpful!

I cant seem to access MY SD Memory Card from my New Camera through the SD Card slot on the Front panel of My Aspire M1201 - The Green LED is on but no pop up and i cant find the correct the section to...

Newer cameras may have SDHC cards - these have a high capacity. Older computers can't read the newer SDHC cards - they can only read the old SD Cards. The SD card and SDHC cards look exactly the same. The SDHC card will probably say "SDHC" on it somewhere. Fortunately you can buy a USB SDHC card reader for a computer for around £2 on amazon. I would buy one of those. You could search the internet for "usb sdhc card reader".

SanDisk ULTRA II 8GB won't read when installed in a laptop. Works fine in the Digital camcorder. Trying to import the footage on to a Fujitsu tablet laptop (12 months old). Reads the standard 2Gb memory...

No, it's a hardware issue. Your 8GB card is an SDHC card (the HC stands for High Capacity), but the card reader in your machine is clearly only compatible with the older type SD cards. SDHC devices will accept SD cards, but devices designed solely for SD cards cannot read or format SDHC cards.

There is no firmware update for this, your only fix is to buy an external reader compatible with SDHC cards for connection via a USB socket. Most new readers are fully SDHC compliant, but check the specs for shelling out your hard-earned...

It doesn't read 4 GB SDHC cards

The limitation of your card reader is 2gb. This is normal for older laptops and cameras.

ACER ASPIRE T180

This is a difficult one. It could be the card itself or the card is not formatted.

You may need to buy a card reader that has itself own driver for this format.

Try looking on the ACER sirte for a driver taht is compatible...

other... buy a card reader at www.newegg.com that is compatiblie.

My acer can read an sd card,How can I get it to

While the spec sheet does not say SDHC specifically I am surprised it does not read and write it since it is an up to date unit but if it wont you can get an inexpensive USB 2.0 reader and it will work. I would check and make sure that the SDHC card is formatted properly if it is go with the adaptor. Good Luck
