The Learning Company CD Rom Game Liberty's Kids will not play on my Vista laptop. In will install, but not play.

I was able to play Liberty's Kids on a Windows 7 64 bit laptop. First I installed the game, then ran the Intel Indeo codec installer from Install\indeocodec. Didn't have to set any compatibility options for either.

I have a (partial & ugly) solution here.

First, copy the entire cd contents into a folder on the computer. e.g. "C:\Program Files\The Learning Company\Reader Rabbit Reading 6-8 full cd copy" Then run the installer from \INSTALL\SETUP32.EXE

DO NOT delete the files which you copied off the cd.

What this does is it installs the program as if it installed off the cd, and creates initialization files which look to check that a certain file exists **in the location that you installed from** - You have fooled the launcher into thinking that the cd is in place.

However I am still not completely satisfied, because every time you launch the program, Windows 7 requires administrator privileges (so my kids have to come and ask me for my password every time).

The software seem to be unable to run on a Mac system although published as Mac compatible! (Saying that the program runs under OSX is misleading and incorrect. Mac users beware.) Below link are the comments by customers who made the purchases.

It may be due to a windows update. You could try system restore to turn your pc back to an earlier time

I had almost the exact same problem when I tried playing on the weekend, I could play immediately after installing but after I closed the game when I tried to reload it I had the CD-Rom missing message....

I managed to get round it eventually by changing my display settings to 800x600 pixels.

To do this right click on the desktop and go to personalize, then go to display settings, then slide the resolution right down to 800 by 600....

Confirm that the CD drive is not a CD-ROM dive and the CD you are trying to open is is not a DVD. CD-ROM drive wil not open a DVD ROM and in some cases will cause the system to stop responding if youtry to run it.

have you installed the audio output device?? do you have the original cd-rom, which you got with the purchase of system?? reply to me these one first. anyway...
Please try re installing your operating system. (Genuine windows xp or vista recommended)

after this process, put the original company cd-rom in tray and follow the steps.

Since you own a copy of the game, it is legal for you to go and download a No-CD crack. There should be many online, simply go to google and type in the Name of the game and No-CD crack. You should be able to find one, they also typically come with instructions on how to use them.

Wow , im not gonna lie this happened to me with a game and i was confussed as hell , didnt no if it was my computer or the game. I uninstalled it and installed it around 3 times , i disabled my anti virus/ anti spy but still didnt work. After complaining to the company for awhile they sent me a new game. So i don't see why they wouldnt do it to you aswell.So try to uninstall and re-install all really i can say....
